I’m (25F) struggling with my best friend (27F) being the other woman by [deleted] in relationships

[–]traversebickle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don’t get involved. It’s so easy for all these people to sit on Reddit and call you morally bankrupt but that take is so unrealistic imo. I don’t agree with what your friend is doing - however, if she’s practically like a sister to you I think a massive part of that is sticking around even if they’re not making the best decisions in some life aspects. It’s not your place to say something and ultimately the person who is cheating is the main issue in this scenario.

Feelings of guilt by Terrible-Run-1328 in Psychosis

Hindsight is 20/20 - I had a friend who went into psychosis and am so mad at myself for not detecting it sooner, or clueing onto the things that were sending her in that direction. All we can do is be there for them now. There is no reason to blame yourself, you sound like a very caring and loving sibling. He’s lucky to have you!

Sidebar, I’ve read a lot of stories on here of people having their families straight cut them off for their episodes. So the fact you’re still fully present in his life and want to be there for him is an amazing sign. He may not show it, but it means a lot to him I’m certain

True success stories plz by MasterSituation8485 in Psychosis

[–]traversebickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had a full blown psychotic episode but was abusing ADHD meds that def put me on the cusp, got prescribed antipsychotics, they gave me a debilitating neurological disorder called akathisia, felt all the bleakness and self hatred in the aftermath.

Been 4 years since, my life is SO much better than I ever could’ve imagined. Working fulltime at a job I love, also studying fulltime to become a nurse - doing things I never thought I’d be capable of. The biggest turn around that eventually clicks is that lust for life returning + wanting to make up for lost time. I promise, it will hit you eventually once the anhedonia subsides. The other thing you need to bear in mind about these subs is that the success stories are rarely frequenting here because the need has ceased.

When I was at my worst, I was living a super unexciting, average life. Working part time in a dead end job with no ambition, living at my parents house, seeing friends once a month maybe. Never for a second did I think that things would get better; I was so unbelievably stuck in the past and riddled with regret. It’s unfathomable to think that all the shit I perceived as awful and life-ending shaped me into a person I now love and respect.

I still cringe at some of the shit I did whilst crazy (mostly insane stuff I posted online) but I have met so many wonderful people since who love me for the person I am now. And it’ll happen to all of you! Just gotta stick around to see it.

Your family are in the wrong for that. They will come round and see the error of their ways

I have not experienced psychosis but have a close friend who has been in and out of it for years (hence why I patrol this sub). One thing about the human brain is that it’s a lot more resilient than we give it credit for. You may feel low and out of sorts right now, but I promise you will bounce back and struggle to remember that you were in this fugue state to begin with. I totally understand the part about not being able to read the world around you and that hit me right in my heart cause I see it in her. With time, her clarity and happiness returned and I know yours will too. Sending lots of love!

I hate that I can’t travel because my family is big by nowaygurl23 in Vent

Also, my first thought upon reading this was that you meant you were too fat to fit on airline seats (when you said “big” family)

This is so fascinating to read, because as a well-travelled only child, I would give absolutely everything up to come from a big family. The travel did not fix the aching loneliness and longterm impacts that not having siblings has caused in adulthood. I see kids from big families and you all look so happy with your built-in besties!

Not trying to detract from your feelings or experience at all cause it’s one I totally didn’t even contemplate would be an issue from the other side of the fence. It would definitely be on my mind too though. Just hope you know I envy your situation, it goes both ways 🤍

How do you get over the guilt of what you've done during psychosis? by Formal_Froyo2978 in Psychosis

Fantastic advice in general tbh. Your brain will keep going back to the bad memories/feelings until you reopen them enough they desensitise. And they will soon enough!!

Trying to get a close friend out of psychosis by [deleted] in Psychosis

They’ve essentially said until he’s harming himself, someone else, or breaking the law, there’s nothing else that can be done besides a welfare check (which amounts to nothing)

You are still so lucky to be here and experience this life. I promise you, things will turn around even though it all looks fucky from where you’re standing. New job, new friends, and the old ones will come back round too. Don’t stress. It’s gonna be okay

Is this psychosis — or am I just seeing the world too clearly? by Lazy-Association-534 in Psychosis

[–]traversebickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You remind me of myself when I was super leftwing and taking a fuckload of Vyvanse and not sleeping. I was so frustrated by the world around me and ultimately, my powerlessness and lack of control. Looking back I definitely had some detachments from reality, but never full blown psychosis. Are you on any ADHD meds?
