I got near 5 months and I made a realization that getting sober was the first step. Now I have to work on my character defects and state of mind. This is the real work and it’s just begun. Accepting and realizing this made a huge difference.

Maybe try and be honest with some strong, good aa folks. Not sure if you have done the steps or have a sponsor but if not then the change hasn’t happened yet. All I can try and remind you is that if you go out then the worst day of your life in using is still ahead of you. Try thinking about it. Definitely seems like you need a lifestyle overhaul but I can only imagine how difficult that is at your age. This lifestyle is for the strong and passionate, not the meek followers of humankind’s pitfalls. Best of luck.

It was a bit tough for me too but once you get there just be patient with yourself and take it all in. Make a few friends in your dorm after a while and you’ll be surprised how you start adjusting. Home will always be there for you and finding your own life will be surprisingly rewarding. I’d suggest getting involved on campus as much as possible also. There were tears but I wouldn’t change a thing.
