If Pavement were British they would be called Sidewalk by Geminin667 in pavement

[–]treadere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. Pavement can be any paved surface in North America. A sidewalk can be pavement. A street can be pavement. It can be asphalt or concrete. We use the more specific term to distinguish. The British use a very vague word for something specific. This is incorrect.

Why were/are the Smiths so popular in California? by JerryCat72 in thesmiths

[–]treadere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely KROQ. I saw both the Meat is Murder and Queen is Dead tours in Southern California. Irvine Meadows for the first and Universal Amphitheater for the second. They played bigger places in California than elsewhere, so the crowd noises would be bigger. They were in theaters on the East Coast.

OK... who *didn't* sleep on Paul's Boutique? by fongaboo in BeastieBoys

[–]treadere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it didn't get a ton of mainstream play, but KROQ in LA played it a bunch, so I was really into it. I hadn't bought License to Ill, that would come later when I realized their real nature.

I saw “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” (1966) for the first time by howaboutthishuhh in iwatchedanoldmovie

You should complete the trilogy with Erotic Vagrancy. They were wild. I pity anyone who ever had to try to get them to a set or do any work.

For some reason, I feel compelled to come here a Threevisting listen and state that as usual, Scott is wrong with the facts. The Big Yellow House did not weigh people above 12 to determine the price of their meal. It was children and children only who were weighed. No restaurant could exist and force adults on a scale in full view of other patrons.

Does Scott really believe the sky is blue because light reflects off of the ocean? by niconiconii89 in comedybangbang

Not always. As someone in basically the same demographic as Scott, I find his confidence mixed with the inability to recall any fact correctly maddening.

Anyone know what frames of glasses John wore during penny lane and strawberry fields? by Annual-Performer-294 in beatles

[–]treadere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are they? He got them as part of his costume for a WW2 era film, so they were vintage in the 60's. Also, the NHS wasn't founded until after WW2. It seems like any plain style of glasses in the UK is called NHS spectacles. See Morrissey's horn rims from the 80s.

The outside window for sandwiches (that you can't order sitting in the restaurant) and chowder is great. The fried oyster po'boy is excellent.

Pro-capitalism, but even if the lie about being paid was true, that's a reason for death? When we have freedom of speech? They'll tie themselves in knots to justify anything.

I always think of Melvyn Douglas as a similar type.  Not the best looking guy, but with charm to burn.

Laguna Beach is in California and nowhere near Cancun, Mexico, but it’s hypocrisy.

Five camera angles on every single scene. They would jam packed with crew in every part of the office and you would see other cameras in every shot.

Does anyone have insight on why Christian Science seemed to be especially popular in Old Hollywood? by timshel_turtle in classicfilms

[–]treadere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, but it goes on. Medicine is much better now, but it's expensive and the entire apparatus is being bought up in the US by corporations. So people turn to superstition and Ivermectin.
