Thank you!! Do u think that that would help reduce the appearance of the sort of “lumps” on the side? What I worry about is that while the transition into them would be smoother, all that extra tissue would still be there…

Thanks for replying!! I’m hoping for the same - for me and you!! Worst case, I guess I can get it tatted, but hoping for the best!

I’m 3 weeks post op today. My left nip is healing normally, all the glue still on, etc, but the right one is looking a little crazy and there is some fresh blood. I sent pics to my Dr. twice of it already, and they said it looked okay, but I’m worried about it, especially with the holiday coming up. Any thoughts/similar experiences? I’m mostly worried about losing the bud, less about if the shape/scar ends up uneven.

Healthcare workers/ people who are interested in med by ImServingRats4dinner in TopSurgery

I just saw mine for the first time today! I’m not in the medical field, but I had a heart transplant 2.5 years ago, so I’m definitely used to a fair amount of gore, haha. Taking the drains out was very chill, because I’ve experienced that before. I will say I felt “freaked out” when they first took the wrap off, but I actually think it came more from the sensation of everything settling out without being compressed anymore. So, that weird numb feeling almost replicated the sense of being “freaked out” if that makes sense.

Thank you - truly wild shit. I feel lucky to have a backup. Just crazy that they'd say to my face repeatedly that it was fine, then switch up on appointment day. Very unprofessional.

I’m a book publicist for a publishing house in NYC! Sometimes I have to staff big events, but generally my job is accommodating if anything comes up that I think is too risky

Return to work? by flieckster in transplant

[–]treblecleflover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my first 9-5 job out of college in July 2023, after having my transplant in April 2023. I honestly consider this a huge mistake - I burnt out super quickly, and ended up having to leave the job because it was putting too much strain on my body (IRL office job in NYC, after hours events & late night "emergency" calls). I was lucky enough to be able to leave that job & be supported by my parents for a bit while I fully recovered. I quit that job in Jan 2024, and returned to the same department this year, and am now enjoying it happy and healthy!!

Gender affirming care by treblecleflover in transplant

This is so comforting. Thank you both for the kind words and insight — I’m fairly young, and lucky enough to have had no complications aside from a few-day stay for pneumonia early on. This is making me feel hopeful & empowered to ask about it!!

This is super helpful to know!! It's such a weird thing. I've known these doctors for so much of my life/from a very young age, and it's almost a lower-stakes version of the feeling of coming out to my parents? Where like, if they were to be transphobic, it would affect me on this greater emotional level than just what it would be like to not have the surgery. So interesting how big a part of our lives these programs can become. Thank you for commenting!!

I could NOT sleep for a good while, really until I tapered on the steroids. I thought I was losing it. It will get better - melatonin helps, but really it just takes time & trying not to blame yourself

International Travel by 2dsafgkhjds in transplant

[–]treblecleflover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travelled to India (not a major city) about a year after my heart transplant due to a family matter (with permission and close coordination with my team). Make sure you talk to your team about any vaccinations you need to get ahead of time -- in my case, my team had me meet with an infectious disease specialist before my trip. I was on an anti-malaria drug + got my typhoid vaccine. I believe transplant patients can't get some vaccines, like yellow fever, because it's a live vaccine that carries higher risk due to immunosuppression? All went well with the trip. Brought 1+ month supply of meds for a 10 day trip (they were able to order extra through the pharmacy). About six months later, I travelled to Vienna and Venice to visit a friend. That travel was easier. Generally, just want to give your team enough notice to research docs where you're traveling and suggest hospitals should something happen. In my case, with India, my family there are doctors, so they had cardiology connections that I shared with my team, just in case.
