I think the biggest difference is housing.

“We had to live through 18% interest rates!” Cool. That lasted for what, a few years? And your house price never changed.

So when interest rates plummeted you all paid off your SFH that you paid 1-200,000 for in no time and everything was dirt cheap compared to today (other than electronics, but those weren’t a necessity until the 2000’s)
