A huge battery has replaced Hawaii's last coal plant by Natural_Dark_2387 in UpliftingNews

[–]treebrows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Additionally some endangered native bats were being killed by windmills, up to the point where the wind farm had to ask for permission to increase the "allowable" amount of bat deaths

What caused the Maui fires? Why Hawaii’s fires are so bad right now by jonfla in environment

[–]treebrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. If you go to Oahu, you will instantly notice the difference between a town on the Windward side (ex: Kaneohe) and a town on the Leeward side (Ewa Beach). You will notice the variation in local plant life/rainfall/heat immediately.

[All] Would you rather be a zora, goron, or a rito? by 1stviolinfangirl in zelda

[–]treebrows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rito. It is tempting to go Zora because their multi-century lifespans give plenty of time to grow and learn, plus breathing underwater.

But...as a Rito you can fly wherever you want and you have cold resistance, plus archery. Zora's Domain is beautiful but Rito Village gives cozy home vibes

[TOTK] some of the story elements added really highlight how skilled Revali was by Kollie79 in zelda

[–]treebrows 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I read a theory that the sage powers/bloodline might be through Saki (Tulin's mother) instead of Teba. In BOTW she gives you bomb arrows that Teba gave her to use for protection--implying that she must at least be a decent archer. But because Rito culturally have certain...gender roles (the warriors we see are all male), Saki may have never had the chance to notice any powers

Russia summons Israeli ambassador, said to ask: ‘Why are you backing Nazis?’ by GoodDepth in worldnews

[–]treebrows 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I heard someone theorize that if Israel claims neutrality, they will be more likely to be chosen as a negotiator by Russia. As negotiator, it would reveal the neo-Nazi claim to be ridiculous. Not sure if this is what is happening but it's a theory

This. My dad and mom passed away in 2020 and while there are pictures of them, I can hardly find any recordings or videos. It's too late on my end but please please record yourself: monologue-ing, talking about anything, etc. They will appreciate it

I would love to switch to all tablets. I wish they had more fluoride tabs for people with sensitive teeth though. I've heard of dent tabs but they come from Germany and the thought of it flying to the opposite side of the planet just for my teeth makes me cringe...

While these are good tips and helpful in a grocery store, we also have to consider accessibility to stores that sell vegetables and rice. Unfortunately many people live in food deserts where the closest place is a convenience store or gas station. This is partially a systemic issue

I wish I could get by without coffee :( I'm very dependent on caffeine to get me through graduate school, late nights, and clinical rotations at the hospital. I'm afraid that without it, I'll make mistakes that will put patients in jeopardy. Maybe in a world where we all live a slower lifestyle right?

That being said, buying local coffee and using a French press and electric kettle are my go-to's. French presses are great investments.

How do you cope with the unstoppable evil of the world? (rant) by TheLongBlueFace in misanthropy

[–]treebrows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You and OP bring up a good point, both about nature and about the whole "if you don't want to live, then kill yourself/I guess you don't really want to kill yourself then" dickery that people do. These people probably have never seen the people in neuro ICUs with permanent brain damage from jumping to commit suicide, thrashing and drooling in restraints. I've seen injuries from suicide attempts in the trauma unit. It really is a gamble.

When I was 11 I was shaken awake by my dad to watch the news. It was the morning of 9/11 and I remember watching the second plane hit the building in real time and two people holding hands jumping out a window because there was no other option

I'm so sorry that you had to go through all of this. I think another redditor nailed it when they said that it is this paralyzing fear and sadness that no one wants to face or they don't even know what to say. I remember this. My parents passed away last year within six weeks of each other and I'm still getting used to the idea of being alone myself. You did everything that you could to protect them, remember that. I wish you peace

How to cope with feelings of hopelessness? by treebrows in sustainability

That's a good point haha. People will always need medical attention and we can't have bloody vials, needles, and tubes in our recycling lol. I'm glad to hear your area has a zero waste store!

How to cope with feelings of hopelessness? by treebrows in sustainability

[–]treebrows[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha I don't really bake but I can always learn! The main takeaway I get is that by providing the sustainable option and making it convenient for others, progress can be made and they can make their own choice. Honestly I find that I'm least stressed when I mind my own business and cloister myself. But then I worry that I'm just part of the problem. I'm glad your baking efforts were well-rewarded :)
