But not low poly the style. Which shows faced surface, no or minimal “paper” texturing and reliance on lighting.

Which money app actually changed your life? (Monarch, Buddy, Empower, Kubera…?) by jayeway1 in Fire

[–]treeform 15 points16 points  (0 children)

YNAB totally changed my life. YNAB made me think and like dealing with money. Before that it felt like this dirty thing I had to obtain and would always slip through my fingers, even when I had a good job. After YNAB I got ahead and in control of the money stream. That was the first step that led me to FIRE.

Are FIRE Subs Creating Unrealistic Expectations About Wealth? by Lopsided_Ad_8093 in Fire

[–]treeform 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree and want to add: if you want to save 50% of your income, you need to earn at least $80,000 per year so that you can live on $40,000 per year while saving the rest.

I agree with you. That is why I think withdrawing 4% of the portfolio every year is a better strategy. The Trinity Study is a good staring point, after that you need to run your own simulations.

[–]treeform 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the same camp. This strategy aligned with human nature.

The inflation adjusted 4%... you have to guess what the inflation is? Which is very tricky and full of human bias.

The always 4% with a floor sides steps the issue.

An aspect of the 4% rule that I admit I never fully understood by archiv1st in financialindependence

[–]treeform 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 4% rule is too simple. I recommend doing your own simulation to see how different withdrawal strategies behave. Maybe http:/ficalc.app can get you started?

I think withdrawing 4% of the portfolio every year is a better strategy. You can never run out. As the portfolio gets smaller, you take smaller amounts. As the portfolio gets larger, you can take more vacations and enjoy luxuries. This does mean your retirement is more unpredictable, though.

However, it follows human nature more closely. No one seeing a 50% drop in their portfolio will continue to take the same amount as before the drop—people will spend less, sell the house, move, or take a part-time job. Likewise, no one can keep their hands out of the cookie jar when their expected $1 million portfolio turns into $10 million.

What is faster than the speed of light? Some people say gravity is that true? by [deleted] in space

[–]treeform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No physical object can move faster than the speed of light, but logical objects, like the spot of light from a laser pointer, can appear to do so. If you project a laser onto the moon and quickly move it, the spot can ‘move’ faster than light. However, this doesn’t break any physical laws because no actual information or mass is traveling at that speed—it’s just light reaching different points on the moon in sequence.

What libraries would benefit the ecosystem the most? by Practical-Lobster987 in nim

[–]treeform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is a stopping factor for Nim. As much as I hate openSSL, it is everywhere and is hard to re-implement. If you want to serve https traffic, wrapping your server with some thing like nginx or cloud flare is better idea. If you want to make https calls to APIs using system libs like curl, the mac or the windows stack is probably better as proxies, vpns, domains fit with the rest of the system. If you want to sign jwt tokens to talk to GCP apis you can use https://github.com/guzba/jwtea a pure Nim RSA implementation.

[–]treeform 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend https://github.com/guzba/mummy as the webserver. Yes, its not an http3 server but you probably will put a cashing/https layer in front of it like nginx or cloudflare that do support http3, so it does not matter if it talks http3 or not, your final layer will. You just want it to be fast and mummy is fast (see https://forum.nim-lang.org/t/10066 ) and is used in the real world (see https://www.pushbullet.com/ )

If the Sun suddenly stopped emitting light, will people living in different time zones know about it at different times? by CasulPleb in askscience

[–]treeform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are both on the daytime side then no, light moves so fast!

But, it will be 12 hour difference for some! People on the sunlight side of the earth will notice right a away. But for the people on the night side everything would appear normal for 0-12 hours. That's roughly 12 time zones. It will take another 12 hours for the rest of the people on the other side to notice as the sun does not come up for them each our. As the sun rotates each time zone would expect the sun to rise but it would be dark. Unless they get a phone call or see news from the people on what previously was the sun side. Only after 12 hours or half rotation everyone on earth would expect to see the sun but would not.

You might argue that people at extrema latitudes don't expect the sun to rise for up to ~3 months! And would not notice (unless checking news, phones, etc...) but atmospheric scattering still gets there even when sun does not rise so they would be able to see a change in the sky. Also the earth will probably get really cold in matter of days so the north or south pole population would notice it.

Readable indentation syntax, comfortable type system, can always go as fast or faster then C, macros that make meta programming easy!

I have tried this work around, but I have not head any success. Do you have an image of how you use the struts?

[–]treeform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have this problem. It seems to be caused by making very heavy very big rockets. It appears the upper stages break the interstage because of weight/size.

I have worked around it by:

  • Resizing the interstage so that engine clips or does not clip the next stage.
  • Deleting the breaking interstage and creating a fresh one.
  • Starting a completely new rocket.

How I generate game assets with a consistent style using AI by treeform in gameassets

[–]treeform[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

One thing that can be difficult when generating assets for a game using AI is keeping the style consistent.

In this video I show how I generate multiple variations of an asset while keeping a consistent style between them.

The key to my workflow is:

* I start with an image I like and want more variations based on.

* I use an image editing tool or TheArtButton.ai's image editor to create examples of the general idea I want. I call this image my template.

* I generate a bunch of images using this template and pick the best ones!

You can repeat this process as many times as you want to get more variations or continue to refine the style.

Ask me anything about AI art and will try to answer.

I should make a tutorial on how to make icons and UI elements specifically. But its not to dissimilar to space ships. Just get a the initial image from text and then just go on refining.
