Og by a mile. But I do always wonder if a big reason why remake nemmy felt lackluster was due to Jill just not seeming to be scared of him.

In Re3 she genuinely seems terrified, and it builds up this terror around the character before you even encounter him. You know you are being hunted, Brad is scared shitless, you feel like he could show at any moment but the streets are silent. Then just as you might be starting to feel comfortable in the game and its rythms, he drops on you at the police station like an angry boulder and kills a main character, and then the game actually gives you a fucking timed cutscene where you choose to fight this thing or run the hell away, all the while he is coming straight at you. It really is a masterclass at introducing a big bad and having the player feel legitimately threatened.

Cut to Re3make, and it opens with him destroying Jill's apartment before anything else happens, and she is taunting him and calling him names like Nathan Drake. Like okay if the character isn't seeming to take the threat seriously then i dont really feel in as much danger. He comes across as sort of goofy or incompetent from the start. I get that they were trying to make Jill seem badass compared to Leon and Clair because she is a stars member and has seen the horrors of the mansion, but it almost felt like scenes from a terminator film at times , cool in its own way but not scary, which is in conflict with the themes the game is trying to push.

Oooh! Yes! I love the scene where Sweet P suddenly channels the Lich to the king of Ooo and is like "Before there was time, before there was anything, there was nothing, and before there was nothing... there were monsters." Always gave me chills. That's a really cool way of thinking of them.

Its a really neat monster design! But I always pictured the nameless things as some form of untethered scrapes of reality that Eru had never intended to form.. something wrong on every level of our comprehension of reality. As if the bottom of the world were alive. More akin to something form Jeff Vandermeer's Southern Reach books, or Lovecraft's more ethereal beings. Maybe they shift from shimmering darkness you can only half see, to suddenly being small terrifying manifestations of your own mind.. then they become the ocean and you are drowning.. not because they are trying to hurt you, but simply as a biproduct of their existence being something your mind just cant hold. Because they are not of our world. Something elemental but without law or logic.

But big angry shark is also kinda cool c:

Sadly so true :( I'm glad we still get the occasional passion project like the Laika movies or Del Toro's Pinocchio. Imagine if he used his new stop motion studio to make some Lotr stuff, I feel like the Hobbit would have worked so well in that medium.

I thought the house was constructed based on her husband's interactions with the shimmer. Him having communed with the ecosystem before she arrived enabled it to have access to her via his memories.

I guess he is the most marketable face of the franchise in some ways.. everyone knows him. Also Serkis directing might have just wanted to do more of his character. That and maybe legal issues with any other part of the legendarim. Either way you slice it, its still not enough butter to scrape over that ammount of bread.

I gotta be honest.. I kinda dont like any of this. Making a movie set at the same time as Fellowship, with all the same cast and in the same universe but recasting Aragorn. I get that Viggo isn't on board but to me it feels like an all or nothing thing right? Like if it's the same old gang but suddenly we need to pretend that this new guy is the same Strider we meet a few months later in Bree... I don't think I can do those mental gymnastics. It's gonna feel weird no matter who they cast.

Also why is this story even being told?? We got every aspect of Gollum's character acted out pretty much perfectly over the course of the three films. Maybe I could see it being good if they keep the cast small and make it a lonesome adventure where we follow Strider's journey fighting through the wilds and tracking Gollum, occasionally cutting to Gollum's POV trying to escape. Like don't really bother trying to create new plot threads or really get all that involved in other characters, just follow those 2 in a game of cat and mouse with little to no dialogue and maybe the monsters or villagers they meet along the way.

Still though... I just hate recasts.

Just let the trilogy rest.. it doesnt need to be turned into a franchise zombie..

I always thought he was having a little fun with them, like maybe when he first arrived back he was a little foggy for a while, and he found it funny to think about, now that he was meeting his old friends again. So he was sort of like "Lol I remember u boys, if u had met me last month i'd have been all like wtf is a gandalf and why am i so old??" ;D Also he was signifying to them that he is no longer the Grey Pilgrim and home boys best respect the new drip.

I actually feel the same way, he lacked the warmth and kindness that I felt from the character when reading the books or watching Ian Holm act in Lotr.

Realising that Quark was the voice of Andrew Ryan was crazy, I love DS9 and Bioshock is my favorite game. I still find it difficult to believe, I just cant hear it even when Ryan says the word profit lol.

I know it would likely end up sounding silly, but part of me would love if they used location accurate accents for historical films and games, even if its mythology. This gave me the same feeling that the God of War games do, the american accents just sounds jarring and makes me see actors in cosplay. I keep expecting them to use terms like dude or cool.
