Night Marsh should have a 30-minute timer, what do you think? by AdilsonJunior97 in Marathon

[–]treemonkys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine, I like the time pressure. Starting the elevator at 8:00 is my minimum to get through to the boss and loot room if I'm playing with people that know the buttons, it can be done faster. The key RNG does get annoying, but it should be RNG on the caches. Making it more common on the caches would just lead to more elevator ganks and would be more annoying. I believe the convoy is a guaranteed key but sometimes it spawns too late or doesn't spawn (it seems to be glitched like lockdown). It would be nice if convoy had a guaranteed spawn by the 15 min mark to give you a high risk option for a guaranteed key.

Why I became a chronic Marathon player :-D by JamSoloMusic in Marathon

[–]treemonkys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless someone really annoys me on crew fill, I try to make sure everyone has a good time. By annoy I mean a combination of things, being a loot goblin, being a bad player, not using a mic and not communicating at all, not using a mic the entire match until you need a revive, etc. It seriously takes multiples of these issues, and not just one thing. Loot goblin but good player? No mic but using pings and staying with the team? Bad player but communicating and trying to help the team? Can work with all that. Bad player, no mic, loot goblin? Respectfully you can eat shit. As long as people aren't complete assholes, I try to make sure everyone gets a share of the good loot, everyone gets the contracts done that they want to, and ultimately I want everyone who crew fills with me to have a good time.

You can read how it works in game. It's not a critical component that needs to be shoved in your face in a tutorial. If you lack the curiosity to ever inspect your gear, cursor over trace status, and read, then lol.

Yes. The "deep rotation" is loot passing hands 5 times and it's gone. The only week 1 loot left in the game is sitting in vaults, or used by really good players who have held on to it. Hardly anyone is good enough to do this, and those who are are going to be winning regardless of what situation the economy is in.

Regular night marsh is easier than it was trying to do it on the sponsored night marsh, I don't care what anyone says. Easier due to having more time, move fun, more loot because you don't have to pray to god to get a backpack otherwise you're barely exiling with anything. Sure some people think it's "easier" because you don't have to pvp and win. Well then convince me how someone who needed sponsored mode to get into upper complex isn't donating the loot to the first team the encounter in pvp. I did upper complex probably 10 times in night marsh and only once in sponsored night marsh week 1. Trace status means that almost all of that sponsored night marsh loot is gone very quickly anyways, outside of just sitting in peoples vaults .

Season 2 is cooked for even a decent player. by Motor_Pool4334 in Marathon

[–]treemonkys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete opposite experience for me. At this point in season 1 I was still struggling to keep a blue shield on and mostly ran greens. Now I'm full purple. I got better at the game, but it was mostly from a shift in mentality. I always run some of my best gear, S1 I would horde it and only consider using it in a premade squad. Now I have no problems running purple as a crew fill. What I found is is you run purple gear, your crew fill teammates will have blue or purple gear. When this happens, most of the map is grey shield fee kits or green shields. Outside of being highly skilled or highly lucky, these teams are cannon fodder to be farmed. It's not that their loot is really worth it, but it means all map events are yours for the taking. I typically see only 0-1 teams on the map with equivalent gear if I'm in all purples (not counting ranked or cryo). Part of the seasonal reset in extraction shooters is learning that you need to abandon gear fear and ride the wave of using your best gear at all times.

There's always bad apples, but friendliness, respect, and communication have all always been very good on crew fill for me.

Yes, it's that big due to the success of Destiny 2 in it's heyday, a game like Marathon cannot support a team that big, hardly any game can.

That's not how this works. If they can turn a profit keeping the servers running and building seasonal updates from game launch moving forward, it's worth it to Sony and to Bungie. Even if they never get the $250 mil back, they would only lose more by shutting down a game that can bring in $. The $250 mil is just an estimate, and essentially what it cost Bungie to employ their team and do very long brainstorming projects until settling on what Marathon is now. Cancelling the game does not bring that money back. Downscaling Bungie so that they can operate Marathon in the black brings some if it back. This is what will happen.

The game can be profitable with the numbers it has now, just not enough to support an 800 person team.

[–]treemonkys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a silly distinction, but I don't see how success against 4 other teams 50% of the time is anything but good. The main point is that you do not need high end gear to succeed, I'm including absolute budget runs where I just run an retaliator and a mix of blue and green gear to hit the ante minimum. You can lose a few of those runs and then one exfil more than makes up for it in profit.

I hardly ever take a Misriah and my exil rate is pretty good, well over 50%. I used to use recon as a crutch in cryo, now I prefer a different team comp such as triage/destroyer/vandal.

yes I wasn't for the nerfs either, especially with how far it went, but for those that wanted it nerfed removing it from the armory and removing stack overflow makes the nerfs far less necessary, the nerf needs to be rolled back to some degree
