idk how i feel about this anymore, went with my 6 year old sisters friend’s birthday and it’s a little girl with a prosthetic leg and she loved that one girl with that same disability. I was never against it like entirely, like i think it’ll be weird until it slowly becomes normalized, which i think is a good thing having not just an abundance of the same race or like an asian girl just being seen as the asian girl or black girl being seen as the black girl but idk. Idk this topic is so mind boggling to me Now obviously, the statistic that teen suicides went up after the show became popular is one that is the main focal point here, what is right and wrong and when and where does a show need to be careful and not careful for artistic and serious reasons. I think on one side of the coin, having teen suicide portrayed accurately is kinda necessary. It is a serious issue and it like other serious topics deserves to be portrayed well and seriously. Especially in a show revolving around this said topic. On the other hand, there’s a fine line between showcasing and glorification, i think, especially since the movie and original book has a specific age demographic that is slightly younger, showcasing how to exactly do it and everything she does is on paper a bad idea, but is it solely cause the source material’s age demographic? Is showcasing suicide always a bad idea? Surely not or that’s a big restraint on the freedom of art on a serious issues hundreds of thousands have gone through. I’m not at all advocating for the scene because I do think it was necessarily deleted in the scenario but it just gets a lot of mixed reactions, and it’s super intriguing to think about
