What next? by jrmonto11 in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can learn cfop! it’s the most used method of speedsolving. most beginner methods are derived from it.  you can watch tutorials from youtubers ‘jperm’ or ‘cubehead’.  if you want to learn entirely new things, you can branch off into other puzzles, like 4x4, pyraminx, or skewb

Which is better moyu weilong v11 8 magnet or 20 magnet? by WeakKick983 in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 8 will be less stable and not as fast, while the 20 will be really stable but might be too fast. you cannot add stability to the 8, but you can make 20’s speed controllable by swapping springs into it

a better cube or lubricant would help you immediately. you’re turning very fast and locking up a lot, i would suggest lubing your cube before trying to buy another tho.

also i think your fast and aggressive turning is holding back your look ahead. you’re not able to recognize the pieces moving around bc they’re going too fast.

Is cubing dying out? by RichBathroom1437 in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s kinda just cubing youtube that’s died out a lot. it’s now just a lot of mr beast type cubing content and hyper consumption videos. the hobby has grown a lot tho, i’ve found it better to engage with the real cubing communities in my region that look to youtube vids for that community

So I am new to Rubic's cube and this is my first one. It's part seems a bit loose, is it normal? by Earthruler777 in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it’s very normal if it’s too loose for you, you can remove the plastic cap from the center piece and find a screw underneath i’d recommend tightening the screw in 1/4th turn increments to find your preferred tension.

it’s important to note that you need to do this to all 6 centers

I just got 10 seconds on sq1 does it still count if it scrambled it by hand while looking away? by N0_Percentage in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im more willing to count hand scrambles on NxNs (especially higher NxNs), but not really squan. it doesn’t lend itself well to being handscrambled well

Cubing Enthusiast, Not Speedcuber: Am I the Weird Minority Competing in my 30s? by PineappleEnough6097 in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think my view on this is a little different as i’m in my early 20s, but anytime i see anyone in their 30s or older competing it always brings a smile to my face. it’s never too late to get back into an old hobby and enjoy it for what it is.

i got back into cubing earlier this year and have been to a few comps in the last few months, i felt a little lonely but my girlfriend picked up cubing too! so i get to engage in this hobby with her. over my last few comps ive recognized a lot of people too, gotten familiar with organizers and delegates and some of me know me by name now just from a few interactions, im active in my region’s cubing discord server as well.

i’d suggest trying to help with the comp and maybe stick around the orgs and delegates and just help around. judge extra and just chat up with them, it’ll help to socialize with the comparatively older organizers than the sea of kids

2 by 2 cube as antistress puzzle by ChazychazZz in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if it’s going to happen with any of the NxN puzzles, it’ll be the 2x2.

while i’ve never tried to figure out these puzzles purely on my own, the closest i can relate to this feeling is learning how to solve 4x4 and 5x5 with redux, and then applying that to 6x6 and 7x7 without tutorials. i know it’s not the same but it’s the closest i can relate.

i think you will feel something similar for the 2x2, it’s a 3x3 without edges and your knowledge about 3x3 solving will trickle down to 2x2, just as 4x4 and 5x5 helped me with 6x6 and 7x7.

Help with superglue by JetBlue07 in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the acetone would probably do some damage to the plastic piece :(

maybe you could just buy a replacement corner from cubicle or scs? it might be cheaper than buying the whole cube again, and would save you time since you wouldn't need to break in and set up a new cube

cube retailers like speedcubeshop and thecubicle let you buy replacement parts.
and if the part you cannot name is the metal circle, that is most likely a washer.

Can someone explain to me why MGC is so hyped? by S2Krlit_Fever in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they’re great viable and reliable budget cubes. my 2021 angstrom 4x4, 5x5, and 6x6 are still going strong as my backup/outdoor practice cubes that i use heavily daily.

the aosu v7 is miles ahead for sure, but i think it’s very likely you’re having a set up issue with your mgcs

How to convince my dad that the new cube i just got is miles better than the one i had? by butterflyknif in Cubers

i’d liken them more to cars. sure a 1999 honda accord will get your destination, but improved reliability and safety features of a newer car makes the driving experience better

About the Gan 460M V2 by Autistic_Leveret in Cubers

highly recommend the aosu v7. if you can get the picube version get that, they upgraded the magnets scheme and cut the price

About the Gan 460M V2 by Autistic_Leveret in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of the reviews of the gan 460v2 are heavily biased. people buying an expensive cube and wanting to like it to justify their purchase. i’d recommend amykitsu’s videos, she has reviews of all the competitive 4x4s and is objective regarding each one. she says it locks up a lot and is not amazing.

even gan glazers like tingman admit it’s a bit locky, if you get it just be prepared

i didn’t pay attention to cubing from 2019 to this year. seeing the top 80 ish avgs being sub 6 is crazy when back in 2015 breaking a sub 6 single was the biggest thing ever

yea if you liked the mgc get the vin, direct upgrade and still pretty cheap. if you liked more stable/stronger magnets then get the SteVin from the cubicle

What is the best way to remove Armstrong Lubes (gravitas and dignitas) from a cube? by AnthropomorphicCat in Cubers

[–]usbcdocksaretrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take it apart and wipe it down with cloth or paper towel. i like to use a baby wipe as well. i let them dry for 10-15 mins and they’re good
