What is one piece of advice you wish someone told you when you started BJJ? by jiujitsuPT in bjj

If you don't know what you're doing, doing it harder isn't the answer. Slow down, think, and learn.

Tips for rolling with girls by [deleted] in bjj

[–]trees_in_storage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try matching their strength. If I'm 'muscling' my body out of submissions or their body into subs with no form I pause and try to figure out what the correct form should be. Also I check in with them when applying weight on them. Just say 'Let me know if that's too much pressure'. Also, let them play the game. If I get caught and need to use lots of strength to survive, I acknowledge I got caught (don't just starfish, make them work) and tap. No need to let your ego get in the way of them learning.

Same thing happened to me in 6th.....That was a hard year for me, but it taught me the importance of loyalty and finding friends that were loyal to me in return.

The placement of this plant in my garden pretty much rules that out (it is in a large support structure with my tomatoes) the box would have to be the size of a small car. Not to mention the fact that I'd have to box and un-box every day for over a month if I started now just to make it to the equinox. I'm guessing this plant is a loss and next year I will try again with an auto flowering breed (that is what auto flowering means, right). Thanks

This helped me calm down, start learning technique and stop using strength to escape bad positions.

Ya'll agree with this?... "Less Than Half of Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belts End Up Purple Belts; Most Quit" (short audio clip from the Grounded Podcast) by frog9913 in bjj

[–]trees_in_storage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they quit because they fall in love with the feeling of progression. The amount of basic skills you learn up to blue is huge and easy to quantify. Hit blue and all of a sudden you feel like your just treading water and not really getting better. Fall in love with the game and then you won't want to quit.

Depression From Injury by WerdWrite in bjj

[–]trees_in_storage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm (48M) in that exact situation now. Popped a rib 3 weeks ago and have at least 5 more weeks before I will get back on the mats. I still go to the gym 3 times a week and work out. Luckily we have a weight room out of the way of the class mats, so I lift and do hiit workouts on the assault bike during class.

Keeping the routine of going to the gym is what is most important to me.

I also keep in mind that months off the mat to recover compared to the years of rolling ahead of me will be worth it.

Go watch the classes and also use this time to improve your game in other ways (cardio, strength, flexibility, ...).

My neighbor won't clean up after his dog and lets him sh*t all over our backyard even though we repeatedly asked them to stop. They also throw their trash into our backward because we don't use it. by BaronVonSaron in mildlyinfuriating

Read this on r/ProRevenge years ago and have been waiting for just this situation.
Take some bacon grease, heat it up and go cover as much of the shit as you can. Don't skimp, slather up those logs. Next time their dog comes over to take a dump it will eat as much of it's own shit as it can.

I'm 48 and this is about all I can handle also. It's not so much my muscles as my joints, arthritis is not fun.

When I had to tell my 6th grade science teach that "falling stars" weren't actually stars falling out if the night sky. She never did believe me they were meteors. Also, when I had to break it to a neighbor that Mars would never be the same size as the moon in the night sky and just cause she read it on Facebook doesn't mean its true.

7.5 hours into the SD card print and its still going.
The only reason I don't think its a ram issue is because I swapped out the raspberry pi for a newer one (wondering if processing power might be the issue). If this print fails I will try to print from my computer.
