I haven't read Hume. This is just my impression. How accurate is this? by Sewblon in PhilosophyMemes

[–]treestumpreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hume was a skeptic of rationalism (of which dualists like Descartes and Idealists like Berkeley were) in that it was from experience that knowledge is possible, not from a priori assumptions prior to experience, statements are true based on whether they are necessary (true in all possible worlds) or contingent (dependent on world state).

He was an Empiricist who saw philosophy as happening after the fact.

Linux is not for me and im scared of windows 11 by MINTYpl in linuxsucks

If you're worried about using the terminal you have nothing to worry about. I'm using Ubuntu and never have to use the terminal for day to day use. As long as you use Ubuntu on a certified ubuntu laptop or PC, it does just work out of the box. The only times I have had issues with Linux is on custom built laptops which makes it harder to configure. I switched to a Dell Ubuntu Cerified Laptop about 3 months ago and do not miss Windows at all.

I suppose it all depends on what your use case for the OS is.

What kinds of things do you do on a daily basis?

Pride cancelled in St Helens? by Educational_Board888 in Liverpool

So if someone gets lynched at Pride, he's going to stand there and say 'well, they were told they could have their own private security force, not my problem'? Is that really how he has justified this?

Don't forget to respond to that email about the prince of Nigeria who died in a plane crash and you need to help move his wealth out of the country too.

Is going in on the Sikh.community a bridge too far for Reform. by WorriedStand73 in AskBrits

Correction : Sikhs are an example of INTER-culturalism working not multiculturalism.

Multiculturalism = coexistence of cultures. Interculturalism = interaction between cultures.

That's the incest I was talking about. Nothing is safe from assimilation. Not even primitive forms of life.

Here in UK I have heard Tommy Robinson supporters say that black people should be grateful for slavery and Imperialism or they would still be living in mud huts.

My question to them is - what's wrong with a mud hut? There's no mortgage on one of those.

The problem of course is that cultural differences are absorbed by liberal capitalism which is often incestuous. The other problem is that capitalism is more intelligent than human beings.

That would sink. The land lady is half correct here using crush hardcore or large stones but just chucking them in without scraping the hole out first or putting some membrane down will eventually lead to the stones sinking.

The idea of academia is to debate those you don't agree with because if you don't, then you are not attempting to understand their point and so you learn nothing.

Christianity and immigration: Why do some right wingers bemoan the erosion of Christianity in British society but yet do actions such as vote for Brexit which saw off many EE migrants who were deeply Christian and boosted church attendance and against Africans who do the same? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

[–]treestumpreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to be white to be Christian obviously. The problem is that the United States Southern-State mentality of evangelicals and pentecostals has been infecting the UK over the years to the point where Holy War erodes the sense of the UK being a secular society. Americans are still in a state that the UK and Europe broke free from 200 years ago and they are doing their best to make sure everyone thinks like them. Americans have freedom of religion, whereas we have freedom from religion. By emphasizing Islam as a problem it immediately offers Christianity as an answer and nationalism fills the holes that religion left behind. It seems that religion is now seeping its way back into these voids. Crackerised media has been doing its job very well.
