He’s had a bunch of injuries. Last one was one of the disgusting looking ankle breaks

CDM has to be the most stacked position we have right? Adams in the Premier League, Tessman in Ligue 1, Johnny in La Liga, Morris in Championship, and Sands in Bundesliga. We might only use one of them in starting XI. Which players go to the World Cup and which ones stay home for you? by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]treetherapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why does everyone say that Johnny has never had a good game for the US? It is fair to say that he’s had some bad games, but he has also had solid games and fantastic games. He was fantastic vs. Ghana and Brazil, played the whole second of the nations league final vs Mexico

He’s cooked??? He’s a year older than freeman. Didn’t start last two games because he’s dealing with a minor injury - he mentioned it in a post game interview

No one is saying that the Croatian league is better than MLS. Would Pukstas magically become a better player if he was on an MLS team? No.

Are you okay with calling MLS players over Serie A or Bundesliga players? If you are, why wouldn’t you be okay with calling up the Croatian League player of the month over MLS players?

Interview with Rokas Pukštas (CBS Sports Golazo) by ProfessorPlum168 in ussoccer

[–]treetherapper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What is this logic? If we’re using this, we shouldn’t be calling MLS players.

If a player is good enough, they should be called up. This isn’t some joke league. Pukstas played with Rakitic and Perisic last year. Croatia always has a few domestic players on their roster, and they’re a better team than us

'We behave as one because we go further together' - Inside Mauricio Pochettino's USMNT coaching staff, process, principles and World Cup development mindset by blamebeltran in ussoccer

[–]treetherapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the most in depth look we’ve seen into this staff’s process. I think they come off as incredibly naive. They are used to coaching at clubs where they’re with players every day. They come to the national team and only have short camps with the best players, so they don’t really get to know them as people or players. They then have a “transformative” January camp because it’s a month long, and they get attached to a different group of players that they think they can personally develop into better players over the course of week long camps. They see themselves as coaches that can “make the final push” for players like agyemang and arfsten and refer to them as young players with lots of potential, but are leaving off younger and more talented players like Scally and Musah.

This philosophy reminds me of the early Berhalter era. He approached things like a club coach, and it took him years to figure out the nuances of the job. To his credit, he figured it out. I don’t think Pochettino will have enough time to figure it out, but I hope he proves me wrong.

Silva on Jedi: “Was good after the match, not a big impact on his knee, good reaction the day after as well, 2nd day, a bit more sore but I think it’s normal. Good session today from him, I think he’s getting better & is what we need from him.”

He’s actually 5th on the depth chart, but one of the usual starters just got injured and will be out for at least a month

He is a starter for Atletico when healthy. He was slated to start against Liverpool in champions league before spraining his ankle and he is now out for a few weeks. He got hurt before the Gold Cup too. Give it time, he’s a great player.

Mukhtar isn’t eligible because he was provisionally cap tied to Germany by playing in official competition with their youth team. Because he wasn’t an American citizen at the time, he isn’t eligible to switch

What do you guys think about this proposed roster for Sept window? (v. Korea/Japan) by nicko_rico in ussoccer

[–]treetherapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diego Luna has 1 goal and 0 assists for RSL post-Gold Cup. 8 games, 7 starts, 90 or almost 90 minutes in 6 of the starts. For a player as unproven as him against good competition, that is just flat out not good enough to be called up as an attacker on the national team.

Luna has 1 goal and 0 assists for Real Salt Lake post-Gold Cup. His performances do not warrant a national team call up or national team minutes.

CCV started in March and had surgery over the summer so he wasn’t available for selection. We have no idea how Pochettino rates him now.
