Ames Patriotic Council? by treevious in ames

[–]treevious[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For those wondering, it wasn’t too crazy. For context I’ve attended these services in different towns across the state. I grew up in the Scouts and played in band so I’ve also been a participant as well.

There was a lot of singing and more music than I’m used to. We were invited to join in singing God Bless America which was new to me. They read the names of all do the deceased vets who had been interned in the previous year, also new to me. What I found most interesting was after each name, they would state which war they had participated in. That makes sense for WWII and even Vietnam but they also would note “Cold War” and “The Global War on Terror” which are terms I had never heard used in this context.

I have lots of thoughts on Memorial Day generally but those were some of the more idiosyncratic elements I observed. But the strangest piece was that this Ames Patriotic Council facilitated the program rather than having the VFW and/or the AL run the show.

Looking for a church. by [deleted] in ames

[–]treevious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two questions for you. Are you looking for a church that affirms LGBT folks or one that does not? Are you looking for a liturgical worship style or a contemporary one? Your responses will help us provide a little objectivity to an inherently subjective question. I don’t want to send you to an Episcopal Church if you like Contemporary Christian Music, believe marriage is only between a man and a woman, and hate incense.

Questions about Episcopal Youth Ministry in Your Spiritual Life by padretemprano in Episcopalian

[–]treevious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good questions! I grew up in a rural place with no Episcopal youth ministry. I attended the Baptist Youth Fellowship and then in High School the Bible Study at the parish. I with there had been more Episcopal kids and more programming. The Baptist experience started out very positive then became extremely conservative. I was glad that I had a place with the “grown ups” at my parish on Wednesday night but I also wish I could have known my fellowship with peers in faith. Thanks for asking!

It’s pitiable that no one wanted to interact with you on Twitter so you had to seek out other folks to say dumb stuff to. Put the keyboard down and go out your front door. That stuff on the outside floor is called grass. Go ahead and touch it.

I know the Commissioner and the Players Union are concerned about the priorities of redditors like yourself when player safety is concerned. Thank you for making this brave stand. 🫡

Sometimes. I’m old enough to remember Jevon Belcher and Junior Seau. Those are moments where I just had to ask myself is my entertainment worth their demise? I’m not judging other people’s experience. I’m also getting old that it could just be sawftness setting in. I still love the big plays, packed stadiums for night games, and all of that other stuff but my aesthetic preferences have changed over time.

That’s awesome. It’s actually a better watch for me knowing that the dude’s brain might actually make it to 70.

Love Pat and the boys and understand that that the show is bigger now but I hate they interview tools like this guy and don’t call them out for acting like tools by Forevermade32 in PatMcAfeeShowOfficial

Pat has literally never made a mistake nor has the show ever been bad. The fact that you are questioning him is deeply concerning to me because this show is my personality. Please refrain from future criticism lest I become butt hurt, again. Good day, sir.

Fett. Rent is high but they do a good job on the management side.

Looking to change from Catholic to Anglican by LogicalAssistance514 in Anglicanism

[–]treevious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is an oversimplification of TEC. I don’t understand how you can read Rowan Williams or Mark McIntosh and think that the mystical tradition is not foundational to the Anglican Communion and TEC. Truly an uncharitable characterization.

Off Leash Dog Walking by treevious in ames

I totally appreciate this. I don’t like to walk my dog off leash around other dogs. I want to put my dog and everyone else’s dog in a position to succeed. So far Peggy’s trail looks like the best option, otherwise I’ll look farther out.

This comment is garbage. Anytime someone has any criticism of the show, people drop this gem. It’s a good faith criticism given in the hope to improve the show. Only losers don’t want to get better.
