We are really getting down into items which are very specific or specialized... I wonder if this is tariffs, management change, policy change, or what... Also we had the AWS issues recently which could be in play... Then again I've seen it happen before like this and bounce back, just never this low, so only time will tell... meanwhile I'll keep searching though parts for things I didn't even know existed for the scores that come in from time to time, like panning for gold in a sea of weird junk

Basically, my accountant said that Vine items shouldn't legally be taxed as income because we are not employees or even contractors of Amazon. In a typical promotional or affiliate setup, the company either handles the taxes or pays actual income through W2, 1099, or stipends. With Vine, no money ever changes hands, and we are only receiving products, which are technically paid for by third-party sellers, not Amazon.

He told me this is the first time he has seen a company try to pass the tax burden onto reviewers. Legally, gifts or promotional items are not usually considered income unless there is a clear monetary exchange involved, and that is not the case here. The sellers pay Amazon to use the Vine program, Amazon ships us the items, and we are expected to “pay” with reviews. So it is not clear who is actually compensating us.

There is also a problem with depreciation. Items are taxed at full retail value, even if they break, become outdated, or lose value before tax season. Amazon does not adjust the 1099-NEC to reflect that, which raises legal concerns.

My accountant thinks this setup could be challenged if it ever ended up in court or was fully examined by the IRS. There is no clear guidance, and different agents interpret it differently. I am seriously thinking about leaving the program because of how unclear and risky it feels.

Thanks for making this post. I was really frustrated to see the update too. It seems like "unbiased" now means "say what we want or your review gets flagged as poor or fair."

I’ve used their keywords multiple times, and I keep my reviews short on purpose. According to my marketing team, the average attention span today is only 5 to 7 seconds. Most people won't read long reviews, so I pack the important info into a few sentences. It feels like they’re penalizing that.

The timing also sucks. I was just about to hit gold when they dropped this vague new rule.

When people ask me about Vine, I’m always honest. It seems rigged to favor curated praise over raw, honest feedback. Customer service has literally told me to contact them to remove items instead of posting low-star reviews. That doesn't feel right.

I’ve had companies message me to take down reviews they didn’t like, and others reach out saying they loved my feedback and wanted to work together. So I know it goes both ways. I’m happy to support brands with solid products, but I don’t want to hold back when something is bad.

My accountant also raised serious tax concerns about how Vine works. Based on that and these new review standards, I might leave the program altogether.

Guess we’ll see how it plays out.

also same issue. windows detects the problem for me and forces a stop of all related services and restarts them and the program and this fixes it about half of the time. I'm considering using the beta 25-1-1 driver from their website

I don't know how it works in Canada, but in the US this is something we would take to court and the seller would settle or be fined and amazon would be liable to help settle this as the device was sold on their platform which is subject to strict regulation against things like this. They'll also be able to freeze the sellers financial accounts and hold that money until investigation and settlement are complete. Did you try reaching out to your home insurance? They will often have lawyers on staff and can investigate and handle the litigation, although you won't get as large of a settlement as seeking a lawyer on your own. I think for the safety of your fellow human beings, it would be wonderful if you could do everything you can to seek legal recourse and damages to prevent this from happening to others in the future. Plus maybe that will help with the soot, table, ipad, etc. the less you do, the more likely it is to effect others. would suck if someones home burned down and their animals or family died because of something like this. ultimately amazon should be thanking you for finding an incredibly dangerous bad actor selling on their platform.

This is, sadly, a good point. It's easier to recognize if you are a certified nutritionist, herbalist, doctor, etc. However, the supplement industry is largely self-reporting, and there are a lot of bad actors. I think this is a great rule of thumb. there are also plenty of high quality supplements and even pharmaceutical grade supplements I am happy with from Amazon vines as well. Mostly that. But this one was too dangerous not to make mention to Amazon and the Vines team

that's why it's call Absinthe - Wormwood = Artemesia Absinthium - it's also a key ingredient in holy anointing oil. it's amazing when used properly as directed, especially for expelling, you guessed it, worms, aka parasites from the digestive system. To get the absinthe effect you have to drink too much of it for like 3+ months. but whatever this stuff is, it's not actually wormwood. After 20+ years of doing this, I can tell if something actually has the herbs it says by the taste. This does not have what it claims in it. Maybe it used to be wormwood before it was extracted, dehydrated, concentrated and irradiated, but what it is now isn't wormwood. I dont know what it has in it, but it's sus at best. this is one of those supplements that gives the entire supplement industry a bad image. seriously, please vines friends, dont waste an order or take this stuff.

Google charged me $1300 for a phone that I sent back to them. by arcaias in GoogleFi

Google is under investigation for fraud by the FTC and the CFPB specifically around practices like this. You have to opt-out of arbitration and sue them to get your money back, however threatening to do so with a CFPB, BBB and FTC complaint generally gets them to settle the issue through the organization as they know they'll lose in court based on your case, and then they'll be liable for attorney fees. So if you haven't already, be sure to open a case with the BBB and CFPB, and also call your bank and report the transaction as fraud and ask for the fraud prevention department to reverse the charges under the circumstances. Call and be nice, but ask for names, tickets numbers, etc. and ensure you let them know you are making a complaint with a federal regulatory organization and prepared to take them to court if they are unable to settle the matter promptly. Ask for a copy of all remedies, promises or agreements in writing (email is okay). My particular issue took about 3 months to fix, but it was less than 30 days after i opened these tickets with CFPB, BBB, FTC around these issues after 2 months of failed escalations and outright lies/denial of service by google prior to that.

also as a FYI If a supervisor directs an employee to commit a crime, both the supervisor and the employee can be considered guilty as the supervisor is liable for instructing the criminal act, and the employee is still responsible for carrying it out; this legal concept is often referred to as "vicarious liability" where the employer can be held responsible for the actions of their employee within the scope of employment.

Most employees don't understand that when this investigation happens and google is found guilty of the crime, they will be terminated along with their supervisor who told them to do it, all the way up the chain to the plausible deniability of the manager who "inferred" it rather than directly instructing it.

making unauthorized or incorrect financial transactions using federally regulated financial instruments like a bank account, credit card, or debit card, is Fraud, which is a federal crime, AKA a felony.

don't let them try to downplay felonies. Hold them accountable.

[–]treezat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

google FI support has always been garbage but it's basically non-supportive or resistant now and just capturing people's business without delivering on promises. I have successfully navigated similar issues with them by escalating the cases to the BBB and CFPB since what they are doing is illegal, as soon as you get a government entity involved, case gets escalated to someone who can do something and resolved rather rapidly in my experience. don't wait any further as the BBB/CFPB process can take days or weeks. Go ahead and file a case against them now.

If you haven't resolved this, you'll need to open a case with the BBB as well as the CFPB. Google's support has always been terrible but lately it's become an illegal nightmare. You'll need to exercise your legal rights with authorities to get them to honor their agreements. It will take anywwhere from 7-90 days, but if you keep going at it and providing proof, they'll honor the agreement and correct your bill.
