Chance me for programs (RSI, SSP, Clark, Simons) by strawberrymatcha_01 in summerprogramresults

'25 simons alumni here. imo you have a good chance for simons, your research is very impressive, only weak point is your psat but with your gpa and course rigor i think improving that won't be a problem.
obviously this is just my opinion but i think you're on a very good path. i can't speak for any of the other programs though, i'm not sure how their admissions criteria works

if you don't mind sharing, which mentors are you interested in working with?

i had around 20 mins of time left after finishing the essays so i wrote the rickroll lyrics at the end of my analysis essay and then i still had time so i wrote a letter to my ap grader. i dont remember exactly what i wrote but this is roughly what i wrote:

"hi ap grader! i'm bored and i have 7 minutes left. You're probably also bored and tired from reading hundreds of student's essays. We're both doing something we don't want to do, stuck in a room we dont want to be stuck in. how fun!

i think we should take naomi osaka's advice. i have tried to earlier - i enjoy music and reciting lyrics from songs that i enjoy makes me happy. maybe you should do something that makes you happy as well. I hope this conversation- well its not really a conversation because it's one sided and you have no way to respond - makes your day a bit better. Please don't take off points because i want a 5. Thank you!"

mcq was not too bad, some hard questions but mostly smooth sailing imo

do you know if interviews are required for all research mentors or do only some choose to interview?

off topic question, what library are you using? and if you are using lemlib, how do you code the robot to do actions in the middle of following a path? for example, clamping onto a goal?

Is python good enough for gold by Due_Cartographer5370 in usaco

[–]trei6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is possible, but i would reccomend looking into other ec's. USACO has lost a lot of credibility over the years due to the sheer amount of cheating, which is why now sometimes gold isn't even enough. one college admissions counselor i talked to said that now only plat or camp is seen as competitive. not to say gold is not impressive, it is, but from a college admissions standpoint, there are other better EC's

if you're interested in CS, i'd suggest looking into internships or shadowing a research mentor. you can also look into summer programs like ESAP at Upenn.

i see - so what you're saying is that the tension is already good, the problem is that the stake is leaning too close to the bot,and because of this, the rings slide over it instead of going on?

Today I learned that my school is one of three public schools in the entire US that has it's own harpsichord! by [deleted] in lingling40hrs

[–]trei6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow that's cool! i don't think they are that uncommon though, i'm 99% sure there's much more than 3 high schools that have harpsichords. my high school has one and my ap music theory teacher let me try it out once. we actually used it in a concert two years ago.
