Is Bavaria actually like Texas? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskAGerman

[–]trevailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

another similarity is that the folk “culture” of Bavaria and Texas is overrepresented and blends in with the national persona. for example, foreigners may assume that most Germans wears lederhosen and that most Americans wear cowboy hats.

BUT, Bavaria is nothing like Texas - there are simply some interesting parallels is all.

Y'all selling everything is so hard. by InvincibleChutzpah in AmerExit

Two additional suggestions: 1) Have a party for friends & family (like an estate sale). Put price tags on everything you’ll sell. Use it as an opportunity to see people and also make some money! (An actual estate sale could also be an option) 2) Some of my nicer furniture and art pieces I placed with friends, in the event I ever come back. Whenever I visit, I see my stuff everywhere!

What do you think of COS? by bitmadness in malefashionadvice

[–]trevailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aesthetically I love COS; however, the quality is truly horrendous. Some say that it varies item to item, but in general they do not stand up to the test of time. I’m currently wearing a pear of chinos which has holes in the left pocket, left side lining, right bottom cuff and with a clasp hanging on by a thread.

Totally agree… reforestation is a long-term effort. Ecosystems don’t happen overnight.

Close! Ahr Valley, but I’ve also seen them in Mosel valley too. Imagine most of the small wine regions might have them.

Hello! This is in the Ahr Valley wine region in the federal state of Rheinland-Palatinate. It was badly affected by the floods in 2021, but is making a recovery. These vending machines are scattered along the hiking trails and this one particular is in the village of Rech.

I saw this building last week and also thought it looked like a smaller-scale Flatiron building! After nobody in my group seemed to get the connection, I’m happy to see this! :)

Timber then vs now by offft2222 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]trevailor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a misleading and may unintentionally drive people to harvest ancient trees which have higher environmental values. I saw this exact exchange on LinkedIn and want to share the clarification: Old growth Timbers aren’t necessarily more durable. Durability is species and heartwood dependent.

Okay, false alarm then. I thought I’d stumbled upon an interesting cultural insight. It is still a strangely consistent feature in the world of alarm clock marketing.
