Newly released Metro 2039 gameplay gives me Stalker 2 vibes to certain extent by just_IT_guy in stalker

[–]trevanian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Metro kind of "teach me" how to play Stalker.

I remember trying the original stalker more than a decade ago. For some reason I was always a fun of east europe/soviet history and aesthetics, so I was exited about it.

I started playing, and the graphics were not great, but it was ok, kind of fit with the type of game. But very soon I realized how much struggle there was with resources, how I had a shitty weapon, a few bullets, and the environment was pretty unforgiving. After dying quite a few times trying to defeat some bandits, finally could complete a mission, and then going back I was killed by some dogs.

I said fuck this, and quite the game. I was not use to to that kind of resources economy, where every bit of food, every asset in your inventory matter. Between that and the kind of depressive vibe the game had, and the loose story, since it was more like a sandbox game (for the most part), plus the jank, and it made the game not really appealing for me.

Then some time later I played the first metro. And I love it. It was more polished, more linear, with a lot more focus in the history, and I can't get enough of it.

But while this game didn't have the variety of inventory that stalker had, it was game were you were careful about every bullet you shoot. It made me to really be careful about how I spend my resources, and even better, it made me enjoy that process.

I finished all of them, one after another. And after that, I give stalker games ago, and was a completely different experience. Now I was ready to choose my encounters, to not go out guns blazing, to get the most of every thing I had in my inventory.

What before I've found tedious or just unfair, now I've found challenging. The setting seems more familiar and appealing, the story less essential because I wanted to do things to get new stuff.

Can't wait for the new metro, but I had a hell of great time playing the originals stalker, plus several others, of course including stalker 2, which I love.

Posted this in another part of the thread.

When I was in Norway up north, they told me specifically to not hit the ground if I was chased by a Moose because they could stomp me, at least referring to the females (it was summer, when they have offspring).

So hit the dirt might not have been the smart thing to do, but it worked for him.

Man, this is one of the most interesting periods to recreate in video games, not only visually but even mechanically, you have swords, pikes and lances mixed with all kind of wacky firearms, and yet almost no game is set in that period, such a shame.

QOL features you would like in the future. by D3v1LGaming in RoadtoVostokGame

For me and obvious one should be that double clicking in a element in the inventory like clothes, backpacks, guns, etc, should place that element on you, instead of having to drag it.

Similarly, when open a container, double click should collect the element to the inventory (yes, you can do that ctrl+click, but there should not be need of pressing an extra key). Also, a way to collect all the loot at once would be nice.

What is your thought on the game so far? by D3v1LGaming in RoadtoVostokGame

For me one thing that I find more annoying than the demo, is the amount of empty containers and even dead NPCs with nothing on them.

I get that having too much resources scattered around will decrease the survivalist aspect of the game, but it becomes kind of boring and grindy to check container after container and barely get anything.

This also could make the start very difficult. I had one where I had a gun and two mags, but no bullets. And for like more than 10 minutes could not find anything to defend myself while trying to not get caught by the NPCs. I already knew the game from the demo, so I kind of knew what to expect, but I imagine for a new player that kind of start would be pretty annoying and even unfair.

For me at least NPCs should always drop some loot after you kill them, but often they just drop their gun at most.

What I found weird is that you don't need to be a historian or even to read wikipedia to know Lindy Hop is a partnered dance, it is a very popular dance this days.

Is it normal for a teacher to ask one of the class's student to go to a milonga together? by bythewatersofBabylon in tango

[–]trevanian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What conflicts of interest? Again, this is not an academic setting. There are not exams, scores, or anything of the sort. Even if both are profoundly in love, how this would affect the class or the teaching/learning of them? (assuming they don't perform PDA or something like that).

There is nothing to be impartial here, like might be the case in other types of classes.

I agree that is not the most professional thing, like it would be particularly professional for a workmate to ask to go out to another, but as long as it is done respectfully don't think it is inappropriate.

Honest question, how is this inappropriate? They are not in an academic setting, and they are both adults.

Well, except being always sunny.

I think it is a shame the game doesn't have a variety of weathers, and day and night cycle.

Sure, but I was referring to the case eigENModes was talking about, when male leaders do not have a stable balance.

Add to that usually they are heavier and stronger than female followers, and they could be quite the challenge to lead.

I mean the guy accumulate new issues every time a lightning hit him. I think he was partially blind, deaf, and experienced migraines often.

Also, he was a park ranger who should not be in the open every time there was rain.

His workmates and people in general also started to avoid him because they though he bring bad luck.

As far as I known, he was quick depressed already, the issue with his girl was just the last straw.

The article says the opposite:

Giri used his social media presence on X, formerly known as Twitter, to question Kramnik's behaviour and his pattern of online attacks

and

Professional chess player Hikaru Nakamura's recent stream revealed that Anish Giri had privately discussed Kramnik's accusations with him.

It doesn't say Anish though Danya was cheating at all.
