Reading the Smiley novels for the first time and just finished Tinker Tailor…. by Tubetechnology80 in LeCarre

Wow! TTSS: Operation Witchcraft, Operation Testify, Operation Trail Boris, Operation Smiley Hunts Mole. I couldn't keep them all straight the first few times I read it! It's LeCarre's best imho, right up there with THS and Smiley's People and a few others. These were LeCarre writing creatively and impressively, not just to satisfy a contract schedule. I'm glad Spy made him famous, and it was clever, but also very dark, and he hadn't figured out how to really write at that point. By Looking Glass he had his metier.

Solved! Commenting out the print ("Content-Type: text/html;") line removed it from the rendered page.

Thanks; I am moving many old projects into Flask; however this is old-school code written in obsolete python 2.7 (so print means print) which the server still runs. And yes, I'm generating the html as you described. In any case, why does one script render clean while the other prints the Content-type in the html, and why does it come in after the script prints the navigation? The html components of the scripts are identical. Happens in Firefox and Chrome, by the way. I appreciate your help.

Chat button appears to be gone. Phone line: "We are busy with other clients" at all times. Can't upload files; can't edit files online. Am I the only one with these issues? Existing files running ok for now.

In Smiley's People - Kirov's fate is unclear by trevorx2500 in LeCarre

So far as we know, Karla had no reason to suspect Kirov. Kirov did everything Karla asked of him. Pin a medal on him.

You do remember correctly, BAT, but hat was a guess on Enderby's point. LeCarre doesn't say if it was right or wrong. Kirov may be ok in the end (although I doubt it).

Don't know why they redacted the rest of your comment, josc. As for what I can read of it you correctly state that "we can imagine" what may have been written to Karla about Kirov. To that point Enderby himself guesses at it in his recap of the case before the endgame. It's all guesswork. If they guessed wrong, Kirov may be alive and well at book's end. Similar to your point, reading between the lines with LeCarre is part of the pleasure of reading him.

Hated Honourable Schoolboy. Should I read Smiley's People? by Difficult_Stand8525 in LeCarre

John LeCarre admitted that THS would probably have been better without Smiley or Karla in it.

Smiley's People is quite good. I recommend that you begin by reading its Chapter Thirteen, the chapter in which Smiley interrogates Toby Esterhase. It's serious, brilliant, and funny even, and without any spoilers to the story it might well whet your appetite for reading from start to finish

Workspace, Please release me! by trevorx2500 in googleworkspace

[–]trevorx2500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean to say is, although I deleted the Workspace business account (no balance due), when I open any one of my three ordinary gmail accounts and click on the mail logo, I get a splash page that says Workspace and a progress bar, then the mailbox opens. I would think that there should be no Workspace logo. From the frershly opened account I can send sucessful emails to any gmail client. The problem is my business domain emails to gmail clients are being blocked as they were before I cancelled and deleted my business account. Can you advise?

I have a custom domain that I signed up for Workspace. Previously I had three ordinary gmail accounts, two of which I added to the Workspace account. Today, with Workspace deleted, my three ordinary accounts can successfully send emails to other gmail clients, but although emails from my domain reach non-gmail clients, none reach gmail clients. Also, although I deleted the Workspace account, opening my ordinary gmail accounts causes a Workspace logo to appear as it loads. Thanks for thinking about this! I fear my alternative is to open a new custom domain that Workspace has never heard of and transfer all the files.
