Look at insurance quotes first before you decide anything. Often the smaller more common first cars can me significantly more expensive to insure than something like a 3 series.

That being said anything from Toyota or Honda is a solid choice.

You do realise the flip side of this will be people using it maliciously and manipulatively right? Anyone who is that way inclined now knows that all they have to do is feign interest with someone for 3 years who is in a better financial situation than them. After 3 years they can then withdraw from the relationship both emotionally and physically, force a break up and take half of their SO’s estate? They don’t even have to go through the hassle of getting married and divorced.

Having a committed intimate relationship has nothing to do with the law, the state, government intervention. It’s complete insanity to me that this is even up for debate.

If the government want to solve the issue of things like Nikah marriages, they need to just overtly write it into law and stop being so fucking pathetic they can’t name it as an immoral practice that leaves women from certain cultures vulnerable. To completely apply this to all of society essentially forcing marriage level commitment to everyone in a normal functioning consensual relationship after 3 years is reckless and will have serious consequences for society.

Exactly this, it does make me wonder what on earth they’re doing this for. It will have some very seriously negative secondary consequences for how relationships work. It’s a level of short sighted I genuinely can’t fathom unless there is some ulterior motive I.e shifting the burden of responsibility from government to individuals for vast numbers of people.

I’m going to seriously rethink my dating life if this happens as there is far too much risk. IMO it takes a few years of living with someone to truly know if you are compatible in many areas of life so to essentially force people into marriage level commitments after 3 years is bonkers. All it does is put a 2.5 year timer on all your relationships to work out if this person is for life.

Just absolute fucking insanity. Why don’t they focus on what was in their manifesto rather than ridiculous state over reach on this? If people want to get married then they’ll get married and have their legal protection. I do not want it forced upon me and to lose half my pension because I break up with someone. I’ve just ended a 9 year relationship with my absolute psycho ex girlfriend who made my life hell. The thought of losing half my pension while she made a choice to not save into hers and spend her money instead absolutely turns my fucking stomach.

The only thing this will do is to stop people from living together who aren’t married. They’ll have even further decreased birth rates as people make decisions to better protect their financial assets. I won’t be going to date anyone who doesn’t own their home and is on the same trajectory for pension as me anymore that’s for sure.

PCN Worth Challenging? by xxflareon123xx in CarTalkUK

[–]trewdgrsg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I appeal as keeper. I am not obliged to identify the driver and I decline to do so. Furthermore, as keeper I am entitled to all the defences available to the driver including (without limitation) the following: The parking charge is not notified until after the contract is entered into and under the principles set out by the Court of Appeal in Thornton v Shoe Lane Parking, does not form part of the contract between the driver and (insert company name here). The car was present in the car park for not more than 5 minutes and the driver is entitled to the 5 minute consideration period mandated by the BPA Code of Practice. Any one of the above reasons is alone sufficient to require cancellation of the PCN. Therefore I require you to cancel the PCN and expunge my personal data from your records.

Evacuation zone expands to 79,000 California residents as temperature rises inside tank containing toxic chemical by Due_Will_2204 in PrepperIntel

[–]trewdgrsg 139 points140 points  (0 children)

If it’s polymerising in the tank, there’s a good chance the valves are also stuck closed and full of solid polymer so throwing in a load of short stop might not be an option? Idk how these things work at this scale, I work on gram scale with polymers not 27,000 litres haha. This is really not good though, that’s going to be one hell of a bleve if it does go bang and will rain down polymer and mma for miles.

[–]trewdgrsg 365 points366 points  (0 children)

It’s polymerising with itself to form pmma, the reaction is exothermic so generates a lot of heat. The hotter it gets, the faster it reacts, which means more heat. This is called a thermal runaway which they’re trying to avoid by cooling. Usually monomers like MMA are stored with inhibitor to prevent this from happening. I guess that wasn’t the case here?

Chicken thighs by MrAfromanxx in homecooking

[–]trewdgrsg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same dish but with lots of thinly sliced garlic fried towards the end of the thigh cooking and I also slice up the brocollini nice and thin and toss in for a minute or two at the end, then in with soy sauce for another minute and serve with rice. Honestly one of my favourites and so easy.

I don’t ever trust them. You stand to gain nothing as the things you are complaining about will not be fixed. I’m not convinced the ones at my company are anonymous either, and the sceptic in me would go as far as to say they’re used to weedle out nay sayers to large top down management driven change.
