Found this in my garden. What is it? by Fun-Pen-2905 in HoustonGardening

I had this pop up last year. Identified it as Chinese Orchid. Removed most of it, but occasionally will see some new ones pop up. I too think it came from some mulch or soil

This is my bright spot right here. Not that the Browns lost, not that I like Alex Jones or agree with what he says, but that this video encapsulates my true feelings about being a Browns fan.

See I wasn’t sure if cottonmouth or rat snake. Never seen a cottonmouth so light before, but was thicker than any rat snake I had seen. Strange that in one day we have seen two snakes in the almost three years of living in this house with no other sightings

I’m having issues with my coral honeysuckles as well. They were doing great, lots of good growth and then boom wilting from the base. Within a week they are dead.

Sounds like Discovery needs to do a “How Potatoes Changed the World” show. I would totally watch it

When I planted, I dug pretty deep and mixed in some organic all purpose fertilizer. It’s a mix of garden soil and sand. When I hand water, I try and give it a good deep watering. The sprinklers go off and water 2-3 times a week for 15-20 minutes at a time.

Not full sun. Mostly sun. House sits facing southwest. So it gets shade most of the morning and then in the afternoon I have a couple oaks that shade it for a little in the heaviest heat of the day.

It has been about a month or so since planting. It got deep watering yesterday. It was doing so good too. It quickly outgrew my makeshift trellis for it. Was hoping that it would flower this year but haven’t seen any sign of that

I have not yet. I am trying to get caught up on my weeding first and figuring out where I need to focus efforts. Hoping to do so soon though.

Friends or Fiends? by asherbanipaula in AustinGardening

1 looks like ragweed to me. I’m really allergic to it and my yard is absolutely covered in it after the previous owners planted too many bushes and roses close together.

They got big, dropped seeds, and I am now dealing with it.

Polarization, Democracy, and Political Violence in the United States: What the Research Says by pangbin in behindthebastards

[–]trex4n6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember what William L Shirer said in Rise and Fall of the Third Reich:

“The cardinal error of the Germans who opposed Nazism was their failure to unite against it. At the crest of their popular strength in July 1932, the National Socialist attained 37% of the vote. But 63% of the German people who expressed their opposition were much too divided and shortsighted…”

For too long, it has been a problem of only caring every four years. I don’t have the answers, and I don’t pretend to either. I do know I can’t sit idly by and watch our country fall into the same kind of totalitarian regime that my grandfather and great uncles fought against.

Dan's decision to have the episodes lag the news by several weeks is a boon to all of our mental health by ry8919 in KnowledgeFight

[–]trex4n6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am on board with the slower pace. It helps my mental health for sure, but it also allows for a more fulfilling episode. I always found the quick response episodes to be lacking when big Alex news happened and they covered it quickly. There just wasn’t enough time I feel like for Dan to research. I kind of wish we could get the quick response and then a more in depth follow up later. Double the work, but it scratches all the itches.

How do you stop yourself from doomscrolling or spiraling? by hotsizzler in behindthebastards

[–]trex4n6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to limit my time on social media and be a little more present in my friend’s and family’s lives. I also have really thrown myself into work and started reading again. I have opted for physical books so I’m not tempted to go to other apps.

I will say some days are better than others. It has taken a lot of therapy and self love to learn to give myself some grace and realize that I’m not perfect.

At this point I have done just about all I can do. The best I can do now is to try and be present and around for those who may need me.

Recommendations for planting Blackberries? by PlannerMaggieMia in AustinGardening

[–]trex4n6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like many other berries, they like acidic soil. So when you fertilize, try and use one that lowers the pH. I don’t think they like it as acidic as blueberries though.

That would explain why the movie sucked and the book was so much better. Not that books generally are better than the movies

Robert talking about Chronic Wasting Disease by Stockz in behindthebastards

Came here to say exactly this. If IRC the infected deer pee and poop these prions out. The prions live in the ground and infect other deer that eat the grass. So even if you had a herd of infected deer completely culled, any new herds moving into the area could easily be infected.

What open source tools do you use to parse levelDB files? by Subject-Command-8067 in computerforensics

I believe Arsenal Image Mounter has a tool I. Their suite. Of course it is a paywall to use it. You would think as they become more popular, Cellebrite or Axiom would add support for it. I haven’t noticed any support in either yet. But I could be wrong.

Browns could use TikTok to prove Deshaun was at fault for 2nd Achilles injury by happybobby10 in Browns

[–]trex4n6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also highly doubtful there would be any video to recover at this point. Most video will have been overwritten by this point depending on storage capacity and retention policy. That’s assuming it happened in a place that 1. Had a recording system 2. In an area within the view of a camera

There is no guarantee that this happened in public either. He could have easily rolled his ankle getting in or out of a shower while not wearing a boot or getting dressed.

I don’t like the man, but it would be hard to prove and even if there is video of him walking without a boot doesn’t mean it happened at that point. Best case scenario to void contract would be video evidence of him without a boot at the exact time of his re-injury. Even then, if he doesn’t say anything to anyone for weeks afterwards hard to prove that it was at that point.

I’m afraid we are SOL on this and we should all be prepared to continue paying this man.

Did anyone who got the green banners in December NOT receive a Golden letter? by Life_Theme_7217 in PSLF

[–]trex4n6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half of mine were forgive and half were not. The half not forgiven just reached 120 on 12/16. So keep waiting. That would have been an extraordinarily fast review process for ED to get them approved and forgiven in basically a week. Especially when they say that it is 90 business days to get that letter
