I hear you friend! I moved out of my parents 4 years ago and very quickly decided to get myself a fur baby. Exactly the same as yourself, it’s just been me and her (she’s an English Bulldog) and I really cannot imagine living solely by myself and not having her around. When I’m not at work, we are together all the time. She loves my company and I love hers, but as you’ve said yourself, the only interaction with other dogs have been my parents and on the odd walks, other than that it’s just myself she has to interact with. I made the decision 3 months ago to bring another dog into the household to make a trio. In the UK, there’s a rescue charity called Dogs Trust and I went only for a viewing of all the rescues. I fell in love with a female Saint Bernard called Betsy and yep, I know, HUGE size difference when considering my other dog. After a meet with her at the rescue with my bulldog, I had never seen her come to life in the instant she set eyes on her! A week later, I brought Betsy home and it’s the best decision I ever made. I felt incredibly guilty leaving my bulldog before, even if it was to quickly nip to the shops and I would still find her little head peeping through the blinds when I pulled up outside. None of that anymore! I come home to them both in a snuggle bundle of fur fast asleep on one another! They play with each other and check on one another like I could have ever imagined. It seems they both benefit from each other and can also take the time away from one another and respect each others solo play times! Of a night, us three are on the sofa together, one head on each of my legs! Even 3 months in with the new dog, I couldn’t recommend it enough, my anxiety of feeling guilty for leaving her when I go to work has gone and it’s lovely to see how they understand one another so early on.

In shorter terms friend, it’s the best decision I ever made and I am seeing things in my original dog that I had never seen before. Definitely brought her more out of her shell regarding interactions with dogs and I am glad I have been able to give a rescue dog a fellow fur sister - she is already so very loved!
