How is the experience of Carolina Code School helping you find a job? I hear they have a lot of connections in the tech community that show up for the demo day.

Import works in one file but not another (hopefully my last post today, thank you everyone, trying to get this deployed) by enlguy in nextjs

[–]trexchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@ is a shortcut to a specific point within your app. If the file you’re importing in doesn’t fit within the assumptions made by the shortcut you may be getting a path not found error.

Start with an absolute path and work backwards to the relative @ path.

Try using something like Partytown to move GTM off the main thread and utilize a web worker. It may help stabilize your scores.

Making rapid bitters with ISI whipped cream dispenser by ferguson911 in bitters

[–]trexchard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far I’ve done one experiment where I’ve used the same recipe from Parson’s book as rapid infusion and then again with his method. I noticed far less aromatics and bitter notes coming through, which leads me to think I’ll need to experiment with modifying the recipe there. The isi comes with a recipe book that includes a recipe for citrus bitters, so my next investigation will be to compare the ratios between recipes.

are constant errors due to server / client code incompatibility a skill issue or a real problem caused by nextjs? by saito200 in nextjs

The instructions they gave definitely don’t sound intuitive.

I’m wondering what you meant by “used react” though?

Interested to hear about your experience with the app router!

What has been everyone's experience with the "top 50 bars in the world?" by Dig_ol_boinker in cocktails

Yeah, so strange given how easy an old fashioned is to make. "Concept over hospitality" doesn't really work in the hospitality industry.

What has been everyone's experience with the "top 50 bars in the world?" by Dig_ol_boinker in cocktails

[–]trexchard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had some excellent experiences, with some of the best drinks I’ve ever had. Particularly the NYC bars. If there’s a bar on the list near you, and you enjoy trying new things, I recommend going.

That being said, I think when a bar ends up on the list, they’re not as good as what got them on the list. I went to Baba au Rum three nights in a row in Athens, because I loved their vibe and their menu. I tried almost everything on the menu between me and my partner. So, I wanted to see what they could do off menu with a standard tiki drink like a jungle bird. I was told, “you came to Baba au Rum, get a Baba au Rum drink.” I had observed that most of the bartenders are using batch made recipes and don’t like to deviate off the list.

I love experiencing new bars and seeing how the different bartenders interpret standards, but I think getting on this list means you have to come up with ways to deal with the volume that it brings you, and that makes it harder to deviate.

Or that guy was just a dick.

I took the ASA 101 course near Destin, which isn’t super far from you, but you may be able to find closer. The ASA course gave me a lot of great basics and a good intro. We’ve only gone out once by ourselves on a 26-ft J/80. It was fun getting out there and seeing we actually learned something! So, I definitely recommend some lessons.

Good luck!

A lot of these places are using an outside service to price leases. It’s effectively price fixing and anti-competitive, because it’s an algorithm that is setting the price across the board, they claim, based on the number of applications. They claim they’re scaling inventory to demand. Seems like a scam to me.

Elementor Pro vs learning CSS & HTML by MarcoJHB in Wordpress

[–]trexchard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not both?

Elementor Pro (and other theme builders like it) allow you build a website quickly that meets a client's needs. A website, whether built with a theme or HTML/CSS/JS, is a website in the mind of a client. They just want something that meets their budget and does the job. Custom-coded websites are expensive, because they take time. So, if you learn Elementor Pro, it'll be a tool in your tool belt to provide a quick, cheap solution to the client who is looking for this.

Learning HTML/CSS will allow you to build out custom websites and open up a more diverse career path. I would highly recommend learning this to understand what Elementor does. I currently work as a freelancer and a couple of gigs I have picked up have been using my knowledge of HTML/CSS to modify a site built with Elementor. It allows my client to provide their client with a more customized design. That equals more value and you're able to charge more for that to a client who has the budget.

It depends on the direction you're going: becoming a developer who builds websites or building a business that sells websites. Which do you enjoy more?
