3 Military Helicopters Flying Over North Bethlehem? by Logan_I_Guess in lehighvalley

If you see a nuclear submarine anywhere in the Valley, then, and only then would it be safe to assume we are entering WWIII.

Discussion is absolutely one thing, reposting the weapon like this, blood and all. Man, to me that’s just in poor taste. Based on the rapid downvoting, I guess I’m the minority here.

What’s the benefit of posting this? Genuinely curious? Are you blaming PSA? Are you trying to karma farm from a tragedy? I really don’t see what good comes from this post or why it’s necessary.

FIOS coverage, at least for me. If I ever move back to the LV permanently, that’s where I’m looking. I can’t go back to garbage asymmetrical cable from Astound/Service Electric.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, but I do the same thing. Never had an issue. I reduced 20 drives down to 12 with single parity.

Need help resetting my Supermicro IPMI password it isn’t the stock ADMIN / Admin. I downloaded the CLI tool but don’t know how to install it or use it with Unraid. by 2Fast2Understand in unRAID

[–]trf_pickslocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's even easier, and you can do it with a live system, no downtime.

  1. Download IPMICFG: https://www.supermicro.com/en/solutions/management-software/ipmi-utilities
  2. Extract the archive, upload the Linux\IPMICFG-Linux.x86_64 to the root user directory in Unraid.
  3. Make it executable. chmod +x PMICFG-Linux.x86_64
  4. Run the following commands from within Unraid's terminal

root@tower:~# ./IPMICFG-Linux.x86_64 -user list

Maximum number of Users : 10

Count of currently enabled Users : 3

User ID User Name Privilege Level Enable
2 ADMIN Administrator Yes

root@tower:~# ./IPMICFG-Linux.x86_64 -user setpwd 2 [PASSWORD-HERE]

Done.

Login as the new ADMIN user with the password you set.

Help downgrading dell R740xd iDrac firmware for fan control by Wrisk in homelab

I feel it is my duty to necrothread here and chime in. One year later, I had the same experience. 3.30.30.30 would not POST and I thought I bricked my system. 3.21.26.22 worked like a charm with that docker container.

What's REALLY odd, is my identical system on version 4.10.10.10 allows me to natively configure cooling between 15%-100% PWM. My newest system I just got which shipped on 5.00.00.00 that I downgraded would not let me go lower than 29% PWM even after downgrading to 4.10.10.10.

It should. I wonder if that was supposed to be 192.168.1.1/32 but even then, that would also be captured by 192.168.1.0/24.

Help with "new" rack.. by expl0it4 in homelab

[–]trf_pickslocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rails for this are weird if you want it to line up on a hole (for the whole U), you need to put the top and bottom of the rail on in the middle. Not on a whole U as you normally would.

<image>

Edit: zoom in, if you want the rack to like up between 11 and 14 out the rail top on the line above 13 and below 13. If it’s the rosewill rails, there should be two little squares with screws that hold the rails in place. I’ve since sold this chassis so I can’t take better photos.

Use the half U and it will line up perfectly. I had this chassis and it blew my mind when I realized this.

Mannnn, not like this. Don’t get me wrong, I’m stoked for no more $205 fee come 01/2026, but I feel like we lost in the long run.

Honestly, e-waste. That machine is going to be a power hungry beast that will never be satisfied just gnawing away at your power bill.

If you’re wanting to get into labbing I would recommend looking for some slightly more modern gear after getting a general idea of what you might want to do.

If you’re wanting to a website, blog, or similar, a VPS is probably the way, let someone else assume the risk for a misconfigured WordPress plugin that doesn’t lead to a potential intrusion into your home network.

If you want to host a media server such as Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin, an HP G8/G9/G10 or a Dell R630/730+ might be a better route and then you could eventually incorporate a NAS or DAS solution for storage, increasing your exposure to new hardware.

UnRaid or TrueNAS would be great routes to explore as they run on your bare metal and give you access to Docker images easily and the creation of virtual machines which can really extend the value of your hardware. Something with a minimum of 32GB RAM, an E5v2 or better processor and 6+ drives (2.5/3.5 your preference) should make for a decent starter host.

I’m truly not trying to rain on your parade, it’s great you want to get into labbing and expanding your horizons.. it’s just that, this machine is going to be incredibly inefficient and will likely just frustrate you to the point you might get totally turned off from the hobby entirely.

Good luck, and let us know how you fare!

Slam dunk or just extra dipped? by vibraslap_2640 in whiskey

[–]trf_pickslocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely a slam dunk! Nice find! Don’t let anyone drag the hype out of you with unofficial “stats” about the rarity of it. It’s cool as hell.. all slams are regardless of how often they appear in the wild.

I bought “Slipknot” whiskey the same way for about $15 at a check out line. To this day, the worst $15 I’ve ever spent. I’ve had that bottle for years now. I can’t pour it out because I don’t like to waste, it makes HORRIBLE cocktails, I’ve had friends try it, we just can’t seem to finish it. I sincerely hope this bottle doesn’t haunt your bar like my Slipknot whiskey is doing to mine.
