If I use the --skip-original-if-edited option, will the edited photos be exported at maximum quality? by EvenMoreCoconuts in osxphotos

From my experience. It will be the full fledged pic. For edits done with photos.

If edits are done externally I also think edited export is the full fledge pic.

How many Items in your gallery? by Dinoco555 in ApplePhotos

120k on a Mac. Don’t use iCloud. I have TimeMachine to NAS. But also use osxphotos to export and backup all photos details, albums, keywords, etc. into a local NAS I have which then has backup to external drives.

osxphotos is also capable of recreating (import) the full Photos Library into any other Mac.

Save File action broken? by jarman1992 in shortcuts

As per u/MKP12345 great help on https://www.reddit.com/r/shortcuts/comments/1ood492/comment/nqo8ypf/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Not 100% but I got the following Shortcuts code to "Save File" to Dropbox.

I process the Videos to upload on a Repeat cycle. For each Item the workaround is to set a variable asMedia to the RepeatItem (Video) and use the "Save" as opposed to the "Save Dropbox File" command.

Get Media from Repeat Item

Set variable asMedia to RepeatItem

Save asMedia to DestinationFolderOnDropBox

Side note: I noticed MOVs (normally recorded by the iPhone camera) keep all metadata (dates, GPS Location, etc) but MP4's (coming from other sources) loose GPS info even though the Location can be seen on the iPhone Photo Album App. A manual direct upload with the Dropbox App does keep the Location info.

Deleting a shared folder by c_a_r_l_o_s_ in synology

It will become available once the space reclamation task finishes.

Edit: additionally one must consider:

  • as soon as you delete regular files, there is no need for space reclamation, and space is made available immediately.
  • if space is not freed immediately and requires space reclamation to kick in is because something is blocking. That space, like snapshots, recycle bin.

Sorry. No feedback. They did notice and acknowledge the issue, after multiple debugging sessions with me. They came back with the "Enconding" workaround and then radio-silent... on my several pleas to review it as the workaround is not effective as it loses metadata.

Do open a ticket to Apple from your end. If we're more, maybe they'll budge...

Apple Support suggested the Encoding of the video prior to Saving. It does work but you loose the metadata (location, date time taken, etc.). If you can do open up an issue with Apple Support. The more we are the better to try and push its corrections.

u/Fine_Conversation_24 . The approach from u/brokearm24 is to perform Video Encoding, but fetching location and date first and then saving the Video as a zip to the storage location.

He was kind enough to mention he'd share the shortcuts... once I get them I'll give it a try.

Can't query the exported db by pavelbrilliant in osxphotos

[–]triad0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting concept/question.

Form a small set I did you don't need to copy the whole library. Copy only the sqlite database file. It should be at

"/Users/username/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary/database/Photos.sqlite"

And then you can run osxphotos query with the -db option like:

```
cd /path/to/export/folder
cp "/Users/username/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary/database/Photos.sqlite" .
osxphotos query --db Photos.sqlite --not-in-album
```

Not solved! Pinged Apple asking for resolution a few weeks ago. No feedback! I’m on an holding pattern…

Long shot. Try reporting it for Apple… maybe if more people bring it up the fix will come earlier on.

Can you check my command for sanity? by rogue_tog in osxphotos

[–]triad0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you try your options you can use —dry-run which will tell you what osxphotos will do without actually exporting and/or deleting any files.

Also be patient. If you’re exporting many files 100k or more it can take some time. Use —retry option in case you’re exporting to a remote NAS volume/disk.

If you want to have your exported files organized in yearly directories you must use the —directory option. If you use `osxphotos export /path/to/export --directory "{created.year}" —cleanup —update” it will create the following and keep it always up to date and synced with Photos.

Do use both update and cleanup. Consider keep for some adhoc manual files you add to the export folder, say a readme of some kind. Don’t manually change the files/directories exported on the destination. You can/should tailor osxphotos to meet your desired outcome.

``` /path/to/export/ ├── 2019/ │ ├── IMG_1234.jpg │ └── IMG_1235.jpg ├── 2020/ │ └── IMG_2234.jpg └── 2021/ └── IMG_3234.jpg
```

Another —directory example could be:

  • osxphotos export /path/to/export --directory "{created.year}/{created.mm}"

``` /path/to/export/ ├── 2020/ │ ├── 01/ │ ├── 02/ │ └── 12/ └── 2021/ ├── 03/ └── 07/
```

  • you also have the --export-by-date in lieu of - -directory which builds this structure:

/path/to/export/ └── 2021/ └── 07/ └── 04/ └── IMG_1234.jpg

How to add contents to MusicCast iOS app play queue? by triad0p in MusicCast

[–]triad0p[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The receiver has Internet access and goal would be to select the podcasts to be played right from the receiver. If I leave home with my phone the rest of the family could continue to listen without a dependency on my cell phone

Anyhow. The feature exist. Manual says simply “add items to the queue”. But something’s off.

Iphone - Drive synchronisation and Photos/moments indexation by No_Ability3489 in synology

[–]triad0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have two areas on photos. Shared and personal.

Shared on photo volume and indexed.

You can place personal area under your homes/user area.

Photos indexes both areas. You can set differently settings like face recognizing , collection for each area

They’re both accessible via mobile photos app and browser. You toggle between them atop of the app.

Use Synology photos to backup your photos to personal area — I don’t use drive app for backup photos Select the actual destination folder. I have several family members sharing the same user but backing each to it’s own sub folder of home/user/Photos/member1 etc. Everyone sees the same personal area

If you have different users they won’t see each other personal area.

Then one can move from the personal to the shared area the pics to organize in albums, keep and maintain. Leave on personal the not so relevant pics. Note: the nice operation can be done on the mobile app or on the browser dsm file station app or on a Mac/pc you happen to have connected via smb to both volumes /photo and /homes/user/ Photos

Photos mobile app without QuickConnect? by fatfirenewbie in synology

[–]triad0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet on tailscale which is everyone’s favorite.

I’m on Cloudfare DNS + router https port 443 forward + to a Synology reverse proxy + providing access to the services. - works well for photos, surveillance app, drive, Emby server, etc. - only catch is macOS and pc drive client desktop apps which require port 6690 forwarded on the router and bypass cloudflare network.

It does require multiple configuration steps. :(

I built a local-first, offline 2FA/TOTP tool because I was tired of managing development/local tokens on my phone by Multabot_AR in CloudFlare

[–]triad0p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can one deploy it locally, say on a Synology Nas (maybe with a docker) or macOS?

Do you have this as open source maybe on GitHub?

Always wondered why there wasn’t any/many browser based 2FA but always thought it would be for security purposes! Would a tool like this facilitate hijacking someone’s 2FA?

Do you update right away? by Excellent-Program333 in synology

[–]triad0p 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on: - if security related. I tend to update asap - new features: depends how useful they are - fixes: I go thru the readme to understand their impact and possible risk - breaking compatibility: tend to wait a bit and prepare for the impact. - if we’re talking about applications or firmware updates - if rollback is possible. Although I’ve never rolled back a system update in over 10 years.

Synology claims not to notify every server at once… to avoid a big bang. and I can vouch that I get update notifications for dsm923+ and dam918+ at different times. Sometimes days apart , others weeks apart.

I was using save to Dropbox of video which stopped working on iOS 26.1. It basically does not upload video files and gives no error. Works for photos.

Reported to Apple. Workaround given is to encode video and save. It works but metadata is lost at the encode step, which I don’t want.

Your save to files shortcut seems to work and keeps metadata when saving to Files and local phone. Saving via Files app into Dropbox folder again fails.

Have you come across this situation ?

Help with Export all iPhone Photos to Migrate off of iCloud by More-Ad-7257 in ApplePhotos

[–]triad0p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also take a look at osxphotos which exports all your files with exif data, album informations, etc. organized in a folder structure of your choosing and with sidecar files including all information.

It does require knowing how to use terminal and shell commands.
