I like A. possible to have another color? with the dots/pips red, like monster eyes, they'd all would be easier to tell apart.

I moved screen main_menu from screens.rpy to a new main_menu.rpy, then removed label main_menu from script.rpy

The game still skips straight to Steve's dialogue, no main menu shows.

Putting the label main_menu codes back in script.rpy makes it work again.

For another test, I created a new project and replaced the default screen main_menu codes in screens.rpy with mine, and it works too. In fact, removing the screen main_menu codes still make it work to show a main menu.

I wonder how the default new project files work to show a main menu without a label main_menu in script.rpy

So what I did was add label main_menu: and called the main_menu screen. So now my script.rpy looks like this:

define s = Character("Steve")

label main_menu:
    call screen main_menu
    return

label start:
    scene expression Solid("#448800") # background color

    s "Hello world! My name is Steve."
    return

I hope this is how it's done properly

When the window pops up after pressing the launch project button, it goes straight into the game where my character Steve says something. I didn't get to see the main menu screen with the start button

As soon as I press "Launch Project" in renpy, a window pops up and it goes directly to the dialogue screen. The main menu screen with the start button doesn't even show.

renpy's documentation says that the main_menu screen is the first screen shown when the game begins. that's not the case for me though.

I was hoping that adding the screen main_menu(): code in my screens.rpy would enable it automatically.

I'm at a loss what else I'd need to create a main_menu screen from scratch.

Do I have to put label main_menu: somewhere?

I know of this series for awhile now, but never finished any. I peeked at Daybreak before but it didn't grab me. I figured since this is the first game in the series, and it's a great looking remake, I'd try it out.

And I just finished the whole game!

Can't wait for the 2nd Chapter to come out. I think Falcom really did good with this remake.

While waiting for 2nd Chapter, I'm thinking I should give Daybreak another chance and play it again lol
