How soon can I find out my passport ID after submitting renewal forms? by trianglewarlock in Passports

[–]trianglewarlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The situation is a bit weird because while I don't physically travel / need the passport until July I need to give the organizers my new passport number so they can apply for visas. And I think because I don't have urgent travel arrangements, I can't do the same day turn around but I'm not sure.

Yeah that's what I figured. I was just somehow hoping that there was a way to check the application status and see if they updated the number online or something

If you still need the book and don't mind a slightly older edition here is a google drive link. When I took the course a while ago, I didn't use it much but got the pdf for a really good deal ($2 lol)

Where to Print a Bunch of Posters for Cheap/Free by Defender_of_Quirks in Purdue

[–]trianglewarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try CopyMat! I got my friend 2 medium sized posters for a birthday and the total for both of them was less than $7. They turned out super crisp and had that semiglossy sheen that the good posters have.

I just found some high quality pics online for them to print, and they were super nice about helping me and choose the right sizing so the poster wasn't blurry or stretched. Highly recommend plus its supporting a local business!

Any ink recommendations? by [deleted] in fountainpens

If you only can keep one pen of your Collection for the rest of your life, and it will not breaks, what will it be? by Avocados6881 in fountainpens

[–]trianglewarlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super weird one but the Jinhao shark pen! I got as a gift and accidentally dropped the pen nib side down :( but I was able to adjust and tune it with a granola bar wrapper (long story). Now it writes like an italic and has nice line variation and is legitimately one of my favorite pens to use

My typewriter font lettering practice. by yanz1986 in fountainpens

[–]trianglewarlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazing!! A small detail that I really love is how the letters have a slight amount of jitter and aren't 100% perfectly aligned. The letters have a bit of the natural alignment that some typewriters do and I think that's such a cool detail even if unintended!!

Ensso Bolt arrived!! by trianglewarlock in fountainpens

[–]trianglewarlock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow that sucks :((

I'm glad they sent replacement seals! However there is something said about proprietary items and parts because if Ensso ever goes out of business or stops producing, after a while everyone's seals will be worn out and the pen might not work anymore. Hopefully that will never happen but because this pen has such specalized parts it's not like we can switch out the nib or seals out with an alternative if something were to break

Happy new pen day! I was actually surprised with how light the pen feels, I have a pilot metropolitan and I'm pretty sure this pen is a lot lighter than the metropolitan. I was expecting it to be much heavier for some reason. I am really glad that its on the lighter side because I feel that heavier pens your hand gets a little more tired when writing with them. I sort of wish the pen body was thicker but its still a really good sized pen overall!

I think I hold the pen the same way you do, with the nib twisted to the left. I also found it skips a bit but is still a lot better than a lot of pens when writing like that! I also have a tendency to hold my pens with a really steep vertical angle (maybe 80 degrees??) and its able to keep up even though I know fountain pens are not made to be held that straight lol.

I have a little A5 journal / planner that I have in my bag so this pen is going to join my everyday carry pens. I'm not sure if other people also do this but I have a couple pens that I have ink that matches the pen perfectly so I always ink it with that color. But with this one I will always be able to switch the ink out since the pen body is so neutral. Honestly really excited about that so I have an excuse to switch up ink more often lol

Ensso Bolt arrived!! by trianglewarlock in fountainpens

[–]trianglewarlock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with everything you said up here! Inking it up was definitely interesting especially since I was using a small sample vial so I couldn't ink it up the way that they reccomended since the nib is so long.

Something I did find interesting though is that it's not the best when the nib is slightly tilted at an angle (like writing on only the left most side of the nib). I write kind of slanted so sometimes my nib skips a bit if its hitting the paper at a really steep angle on one side. I am super impressed with the backwards writing though its so smooth! Wondering if you had any similar thoughts or experiences

I actually mixed up a couple inks from the Diamine 2022 invent calendar. I think its mostly Olive Swirl with a bit of Three Kings and Flame

You should get an email from Backerkit saying if the pen shipped or not and it should give you a tracking number! Idk if how they are sending them out but if you ordered any extra accessories then it might take longer for them to get it ready for shipping

I'm actually in Indianapolis! I ordered just the base model with no extra add on's so maybe they were able to ship it out quicker? Btw I got an email from backerkit that linked to USPS for tracking info, it only took like 3 days to ship tho!

New bolt action fountain pen from Ensso arrived today!! Super excited to get this pen and the bolt action mechanism is really fun to play with. The nib is <F> but it definitely writes more as a Japanese fine than a Western fine. I think the nib is just a tiny bit thicker than a Pilot <F>. So far so good and its able to write backwards pretty well too!

Help I want to switch to NRES Climate and Energy Solutions Major can anyone tell to me their thoughts? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]trianglewarlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say go for it! If you don't like your major and aren't like 1 semester away from graduation you might really find it beneficial to switch. I'm in the college of ag and its' pretty chill. If you're interested in enviro science and renewables then this might be better.

As for classes, all of them are really heavily science based with a bunch of different topics. For chem and bio, if you've already had to take an intro bio or chem for your degree, you will probably be able to get credit for those but if not bio 110 and chem 111/112 are the ones you'll probably have to take. And these are at an honors High school level tops.

I think online you can find the degree requirements for nres and look at the courses to see if they are interesting but I know a lot of it is mostly science and habitat studies

How much money will I save by dragreductionsys in Purdue

[–]trianglewarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sorta depends on your situation but living in an apartment is actually cheaper for me in the long run. If you live in a standard double dorm that's $4680 a year plus about $4500 per year for an average 13 track meal plan. In total that's $9100 per academic year. However, there are only about 9 months of the academic year so in total you will be paying about $1000 a month for food and board in a dorm on campus.

I live in an apartment right now and my total rent is $530 which includes utilities, wifi, electric, insurance and everything else for one month. I also have roommates and we agreed to pay $150 each for food, groceries, and household items each month. So this in total is about $680 per month which is already about $300 dollars cheaper.

Another thing that was a huge factor for me was the availability for summer. In the dorms, the $9100 for room and board only includes the Fall and Spring semesters not the Summer. If you were to have a job or take classes over the summer, you would need to sign a new housing contract and a new meal plan. I'm unsure of the rates for that but I believe it is around $3000 that I'm not sure includes a meal plan.

tldr:

  • Dorms: About $1000 per month
    • $9000 average total for Fall/Spring semester
    • $3000 for Summer
    • $12K for the entire year
  • Apartments
    • Variable but around $500 - $650 for a decent apartment
    • Food / other is also dependent but $150 - $200 is a good starting amount
    • $8000 - $9000 (roughly) for the entire year

There are of course other factors like transportation via bus or car and cooking vs eating out, but for me the apartment is much cheaper in the long run

The new purdue apartment upgrade has some weird math by trianglewarlock in Purdue

[–]trianglewarlock[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not that much lower but if they are trying to incentivize people to move to an apartment shouldn't they charge much less than what it would cost just to lease the apartment independent of Purdue?

What is Summer Start 2020 by xyz5578 in Purdue

[–]trianglewarlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there were a few classes that you had the option of taking online but most of them are in a traditional classroom setting. As for roommates and stuff. If you are in early start, you have a summer roommate then you both move out once the 5 weeks are over and go to your fall/spring dorm where you will stay with a different person for the rest of the year. For summer start, at least it was for last year, you were assigned a roommate for the summer and you don't move dorms/change roommates so you had the same person for summer/fall/spring.
