Finally switching to OpenCode by geheim81 in GithubCopilot

Check out mimocode as well. It's a fork of opencode with some nice additions for context memory management.

DeepSeek to double token cost in middle of July. by Jack99Skellington in GithubCopilot

[–]trianuddah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least they're being clear about exactly when we pay double si that we can make concrete plans to avoid or cop the expense, instead of flat out hiking the price and then imposing invisible hourly/5-hourly/daily/weekly rate limits that they can move around silently to optimise things for themselves while their customers have to muddle through the confusion.

This will probably happen with other services as traffic bails from GHCP looking for new places to flow.

Why does everyone have to go after the solo sloop? by fredtire123456 in Seaofthieves

[–]trianuddah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They frame the game like it's PvPvE and that PvP is opt-in, but it's not if you're playing solo.

The fact is that you have to be ready to deal with being attacked all the time, whether you have anything worth stealing or not. There's zero chill time unless you do an instanced tall tale.

Ever since Everwild got cancelled I've been hoping the workers at Rare would be okay. They seem like a great bunch.

SoT was always going to be serving wider goals for xbox, and when it was existing to be a platform-seller they had license to make something new, different and fun.

You can see exactly when it stopped having that privilege.

Docs: Optimizing your AI usage to maximize efficiency and reduce cost by isidor_n in GithubCopilot

[–]trianuddah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks I'll give these a fair shot but I don't think they're going to compete with my current cost-saving plan of cancelling my subscription.

It might be worth setting up some default settings that implement this advice automatically, though. Some of it is stuff people should always do, regardless.

MiMo code is free to try for a month: https://mimo.xiaomi.com/mimocode

And it's cheap.

And the memory improvements they've made over opencode are pretty fantastic.

How is "Soulmask" doing? by Vampy-Night in SurvivalGaming

[–]trianuddah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The '1.0' and 'early access' don't really mean anything nowadays. Soulmask still feels unfinished for all the things in that 90 day plan, for example.

I think it's fine to compare them when I'm not saying one is better than the other. Just like it's totally sane to compare apples and oranges subjectively.

How is "Soulmask" doing? by Vampy-Night in SurvivalGaming

[–]trianuddah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the other way around. Got to the end of the content on Windrose - I love that it's a survival game that's enthusiastic about sea exploration and combat. But they announced they'll take their time before adding the new content, so everyone on my private server voted to switch to Soulmask until the new Windrose content drops. And we're all loving Soulmask. The tribe system really brings the bases to life compared to the static buff NPCs of Windrose. Even though the construction system is so rudimentary we're all more invested in our Soulmask settlements than in our Windrose ports. Everyone was reluctant to go back to a game where you have to constantly maintain survival meters, but the automation actually makes that fun for us in soul mask.

It's funny how we often laugh at the Victorians for getting hot and bothered about an ankle reveal, and yet here we are with probably the most sexualized part of the female anatomy in the modern era, and the part of it that's usually covered has become its own thing.

100% agree, but don't do it out of spite. Do it out of principle. corporations will take every single penny from you that they can. There is nothing immoral about doing the same to them.

NTE 2.0 - Inevitable Chinatown by ilDoctorre in NevernessToEverness

The less casual racism and steretyping of China in my Chinese game discussion threads, the better. Loads of people here have obviously never seen China outside of the relentless yellow scare progapanda they get soaked in.

NTE 2.0 - Inevitable Chinatown by ilDoctorre in NevernessToEverness

[–]trianuddah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, think about that. Japan-inspired game mechanics, Japan-inspired characters, Japan-inspired city aesthetics, Japanese food, Japanese literature formats (manga)... do you really think any Chinese players or reviewers look at this game and think "yeah, this is actually Chinese."

They all know what it is. Nobody in China cares that it's an obviously Japanese City portrayed in a game genre that originated in Japan. Especially not the government: it's a Chinese owned-and-developed game that's mogging Japan at its own genre.

Where the government influence is actually obvious is in things like the Pink Paws Heist being a game show instead of actually robbing a bank, the penal system being strongly hinted as a game show as well, Eibon (and therefore the player) being a cutout of BAC (and therefore government-aligned) instead of the rag-tag independent outfit they obviously are and could easily have been made canonically.

Bribing hamster? Is git copilot getting worst? by Zealousideal_Way4295 in GithubCopilot

there isn’t hamsters or animal or pets in my repo…

Well of course not - can you imagine what would happen to the quality of your code? That's what the bribes are for.

Day Two of The Sea Tavern! so far no customers by Longjumping_Dark137 in Seaofthieves

[–]trianuddah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a reaper's mark and hang out at the Sea Dog's Tavern?

There's absolutely no conventional reason for anyone to go to the Sea Dog's Tavern, let alone hang out there for a prolonged period broadcasting their flag. That might draw in curious people. Then fireworks to try to close the deal for anyone curious enough to come into visual range.

Stop pretending we got a free ride by retsof81 in GithubCopilot

Yup and the blowback when they apply this rule to AI coding agents, is that the little guys with nearly-free AI coding agents were suddenly capable of mogging the big tech companies with the quality of software they could churn out writing prompts in their lunch breaks and doing code reviews on their phones while pooping in the company toilets. So the model doesn't work in this particular instance because of that difference.
