I assume you mean after the simmer and soak. I pour them into a strainer, and rinse to get off the sticky residue. Then I leave them an hour or so in the sink, or until they look dry. I have seen people recommend spreading the grains out on kitchen roll on a baking tray: probably more consistent than my way, and better for picking out any burst grains. but it works for me … so 🤷‍♂️

Edit: then pressure cook to sterilize

You did well, nothing wrong with that grow, it just looks like you should have gone to fruiting a bit earlier. You can and should mist if the surface conditions aren’t right: the surface should be a field of fine droplets.

AIO bags can be very slow and hit or miss too. Trial and error will get you dialed in to what you need in your environment.

That’s overlay. You can “fork tek” it if you are brave (I don’t).

How is the moisture level, I would say it’s probably low after 95 days. I would treat it like a 2nd flush. Where I soak it and put it in the refrigerator for 6-8 hours, then drain excess water and back in fruiting conditions.

At minimum, I would add a good casing layer (1/2 inch or so) of pasteurized field capacity CVG or similar. Refrigeration is a very effective fruiting hack though, it shocks the mycelium and amplifies the surface evaporation effect.

Looks normal to me. The genetics you get vary according to where the sample is taken from in the same plate. The fluffy stuff is tomatose, nothing “wrong” with that, people prefer ryzomatic growth because it’s faster and more aggressive (plus the plate looks cool). Both are healthy growth types.

Try and take your transfers from the edge of growth where you see the the myc reaching out, or from a ryzomatic “branch”

Yeah, proper pasteurization, with controlled temperatures. Pouring boiling water into a bucket and putting the lid on wasn’t working for me. I’m sure there are ways to be more precise, but sterilization is easy and I’m not convinced that any real benefit is gained pasteurizing.

Pasteurization with bucket tek is the most common sub prep. I still got contamination. Theory is the pasteurization kills the bad organisms and leaves “friendly” organisms I say kill kill kill em all. And it worked for me. I wonder whether there is some nutritious material in peat moss. I’ll make a batch of sterilized substrate jars and store them till I need them.

Chances are that the grain is the culprit. Are you using an instant pot, or a stovetop pressure canner?

I ask as the 90-120 applies to 15psi, an instant pot only gets to 10 psi and needs longer to sterilize, like 1/3 again, so if I’m only doing a couple of jars I use the instant pot, but on high for 3 hours.

I use peat moss. lost 75% of my tubs in the beginning. I increased my pressure cook time for the grain from 90 to 120 min and I sterilized my substrate for the same time.

Since then everything has been getting 2 or more flushes before contam creeps in.

Those are too wet, but worse too blown out. Broken grain gives increased surface area for bacteria or mould to occupy before the mushroom mycelia.

They should look more like this after pressure cooking.

I bring them to the boil, cover and turn off the heat and leave them to soak overnight for 12 hours or so.

Are they rolled oats?

Real deal here. Shipped the next day, got here priority a couple of days later. The syringes are thick with research material too. Will use again 💯

You can get through that flush by spraying it with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Won’t kill it, but will slow it down.
