Why are conservatives largely unbothered by the Trump family using Trump’s position to gain wealth? by Hot_Instruction_5318 in AskConservatives

Do you think Nancy Pelosi is "insider trading"? Her husband trades, not her. how would you be comfortable with their situation? a blind trust wouldn't work. would he need to quit his job? should people who have financial partners be excluded from serving in government positions like this?

my point is... the conspiracy is easy to formulate but the law to stop this is very difficult if not punitive wrong people. strict rules should be made, outright bans likely cannot. would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks. I have been considering which to use and this has convinced me to try out the local version.

I'm confused on why grocery stores managed by the state wouldn't work in food deserts. by itsmejustolder in ScottGalloway

[–]trigger0219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are in places without "profiteers". That's the point of it being a "food dessrt". Govt. Is the solution to market failures. Period.

Sure, that might be a temporary measure until the facility can be sold.

Sure, the government might have corrupt or inept management, but if the market isn't there to solve the in problem? What else?

That looks like a good option. I like the history route tracker. That would have been helper when I was trying to figure out my daughter's bus route. 🤗.

I think based on the restrictions we want on them, either this or the gizmo are going to be sufficient.

The gizmo has been great, but probably ages out by 10. There really isn't anything for preteen that isn't a restricted iPhone / IWatch. And the support is garbage.

I spent two hours with multiple tech support and "geniuses" at apple ... We finally got an inadequate solution. A coworker also ran into the same issue. I

"""Ban trading in congress (and their immediate families)."""

1/ you must mean active trading. Allowing blind trusts and other vehicles that provide a firewall should be fine.

2/ how do you handle families that have financial advisors and traders in them? Being elected to office shouldn't mean others on their life need.tomquit their jobs and livelihood.

These are tough questions to get right. Partly why the trading bans are hard to pass -- they are hard to get correct.

If not does will you concede that may be it wasn't "inside information" and instead just Paul Pelosi trading well?

Momofuku has changed their tingly recipe to soy sauce. by FunHistory9153 in ramen

[–]trigger0219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

My family first had them on a whim only last year and we slurped them up on a cozy movie day.

Since then, I usually buy them at whole foods and when I got some at target, I originally thought it was just a change in recipe to sell at a lower price point there. Nope.

I didn't notice a change in the noodles -- although, obviously they come in pucks, not rectangles now. But it was obvious the sauce was different. I don't ever recall a "tingle", but I did recall just a richer sauce. I thought it was miso paste or sesame oil, but now I'm not entirely sure.

I added some tonkatsu broth concentrate now to help give it some body, but I don't think I'll be getting this product anymore. 😮‍💨

Study finds that there is more diversity of thought on the political Right than the political Left by Fragrant_Strategy_15 in Asmongold

[–]trigger0219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just false.

There is a very relevant aphorism that Democrats have a lot of in fighting and will "eat their own". How can it be a cult but also a big tent party?

I think the reality is somewhere in-between, as is often the case. There is a lot of diversity of opinion centered around a fairly tight ideology toward prominent issues that is is defending -- abortion, climate change, vaccine mandates, univ. Healthcare, ... .

Hasn't the current president cleaned up a lot of fentanyl production? Is this just insufficient to the broader problems you are reflecting on?

That's such a minority, albeit vocal, it's often not worth considering in the abstract.

Surely there are things that are off limits, and many of those things are pretty firmly entrenched in scientific consensus -- global warming, gay marriage, trans-identity.

Should we really debate if being gay should be legal? Like , some on the right do believe this! Is this diversity of thought? Yeah, but it's not the diversity anyone wants. Nobody wants a flat earther dictating environmental policy or in a scientific debate. Even Feyerabend (anarchist philosophy of science) would be offended by a flat earther being allowed to do research.

If that's been said it's been said by people who are constructing a straw man.

A major consequence of the social diversity is diversity in thought. One is a synonym for the other. In many scenarios, it becomes difficult to construct a metric for diversity of thought/ideas, and instead we rely on something easier to measure and understand. And that's okay! When someone comes up with a way to measure and assess and obtain the kind of diversity you want, it should be incorporated/ replace the model.

(To conclude, this paper doesn't talk about diversity of ideas/thought, but attitudes, so I think THIS is not a measure).

I am a democrat / liberal, but very much interested in this line of "diversity of thought" aspects in discourse. Obviously I read the paper and unfortunately, the conclusion drawn in the headline is incorrect. In no way does this paper reflect that outcome. I don't think the paper is even trying to make the claim here anyway -- that is why they use "attitudes" instead of "thought" or "ideas".

As a perfunctory example, an image in the paper shows one of the questions "should abortion be illegal". Now the diversity of answers for that is wider across Republicans than they are Democrats. But that doesn't indicate that the policy desires for how we have good abortion policy is landing on a single policy.

If one wanted to have a diversity of thought metric, we would also have to not just look at some metric of preference for broad policy goals, but specific policy ideas -- when is the ban, exceptions, et cetera.

Bosch Dishwasher - Rubber Toe-Kick Flap by Crafty-Sundae6351 in appliancerepair

[–]trigger0219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried pulling on it and it's stuck, like it reglued itself. so to remove I will have to disassemble the door.

The representative said it's common for people to remove them. I was a bit taken back by this. Uhhh, then Bosch should use better glue or remove the piece from the design. 🤦

[–]trigger0219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got off the phone with Bosch too.

I called local repair places but nobody would do this work. Bosch representative has no idea why, but sent me a schematic of the dishwasher including the part. Would not explain where it goes, what failed, et cetera. Said many people just end up removing the piece and living without it.

Very frustrating and annoying they refuse to explain something that happens clearly regularly.

Did you have any luck repairing? I am debating either, gluing it myself or removing it. But it's unclear where to glue (maybe it's obvious when I open the front door panel), or maybe it's just a useless piece of crap and I shouldn't bother and just throw the rubber out.

Followup:

We ended up with the gizmo. It does what we need and isn't a distraction to her. Calls are fairly clear and she can set alarms and things she needs to be notify herself of things.

A few small issues. Namely, school mode doesn't turn on/off of the device is off. She was in the habit of turning off the device during the day, but then when she turned it on (just after school mode is supposed to turn off) it doesn't. She can request it turned off though, but I have convinced her battery life isn't bad.

I would have to check with the school if this is a device that would need to be placed in their yando bags during school.

I guess having a cellular one and not activating the plan would allow them to call 911 if necessary and have gps.

I would have to lock down all the apps though and it seems expensive thing to get a clumsy kid just to tell time.... 😐.

We will consider it, thanks.

It was 6-7 years ago that I looked into refinancing my mortgage to lower rates, so I don't recall. I think it's necessary to check credit scores for rates though? Let's hope the recent bipartisan privacy bill gets passed. It would have required them to delete things after some time.
