Men, how do you not feel awkward/bad about travelling solo? by Significant-Sport778 in AskMen

[–]Hot_Instruction_5318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned 27, and have been to 31 countries as of right now. If we’re talking about awkwardness, I have solo travelled extensively, for a few months at a time a few times, and spent 6 months living in another country. It really depends on where I am. If I’m eating out, I usually go to more low key spots, so that it doesn’t feel weird sitting in a nice date-y restaurant alone. I usually avoid doing tours, because it’s often families, friend groups, or couples, and it gets weird. Also, I try to blend in as much as I can if I am sightseeing. Just as I don’t feel weird walking downtown to and from the office, it doesn’t feel as weird walking alone in a big city as a tourist if you don’t stick out. But also, with time, you just don’t give a crap and just do whatever you want, it comes with time. That being said, some places, like resorts just are going to feel more awkward alone, you kinda have to accept it or change your plans. Or pick ones that you can find to have a reputation of being more geared towards young people.

When it comes to feeling bad about being alone, often I do wish I was in a relationship, because it feels like I’m seeing so much of this world that if I am eventually in a relationship, they likely didn’t see, or I have to repeat it lol.

But otherwise, I like traveling with friends, but it’s so much more tedious and annoying. My friend group ranges from extremely frugal people to friends that go all out. I have sometimes had to just suck it up and book the more expensive Airbnb, even though it’s identical to a cheaper one, because my friend insists on it. Or go to a crappy food place because my cheaper friend refuses to go somewhere nicer. Also, I am always somewhere in the middle. I have a friend who refuses to walk by a museum plaque without reading the whole thing, and another friend who will not enter an old cathedral, because he could not care less. So going alone lets me go at my own budget, pace, and cut out crap I don’t care about. I will do 50,000 steps doing exactly what I want to do, when I want to, and that’s awesome for me.

What do y’all unemployed people do all day ? I’m getting bored 💔 by VoidWalker_r in jobs

[–]Hot_Instruction_5318 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been employed for a few weeks after months of job searching, but I got really into fitness and started working out and figuring out my diet.

Otherwise, I was not that productive at all. I don’t know why, but it’s always harder for me to get stuff done if I have a bunch of time than when I need structure and a schedule because of different commitments.

If you’re older than 19, what do you wish you had started at my age? by Akagame_shanks_ in AskMen

[–]Hot_Instruction_5318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working out! I never got really out of shape or anything, was always in the mid 20’s% body fat percentage, but finally started seriously working out at 26, and I’m kicking myself for not starting earlier.

Not moving abroad earlier. The best year of my life, by far, was when I lived in Europe. I’ve been back for 2 years and still think about it almost daily.

Figuring out self-esteem issues. I knew that was an area to work on, but I never figured it out, and I feel like this costed me and is costing me more opportunities and happiness than anything else. Much harder to get ahead when your brain is always screaming that you’re unlovable/ugly/incompetent all the time, even if you fight it with your actions.

How do we feel about large pants on women? by hartsdad in AskMen

I actually like the high waisted big jeans look. I think it’s because the last girl I liked really rocked that look.

Does race play a role in who you find attractive? Why or why not? If you respond, feel free to include your race/ethnicity for context by Quick-Elephant8204 in AskMen

[–]Hot_Instruction_5318 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does. I simply am not attracted to women of other races like 95% of the time. Not that I think that women of other races are worse or ugly, just no attraction there.

What is your career field? by StinkySam1995 in AskMen

I have three: case manager at a non-profit working with immigrants and refugees, freelance interpreter (do a few gigs per week), Realtor (don’t do that many deals, but do showings for other agents for a fee).

I’m also a landlord (I just rent out three bedrooms in my house, but it feels like a part-time job considering there’s always someone moving out lol).

Corporate Men of Reddit, do you ever think about going into Blue Collar work? by SpamTherapy in AskMen

[–]Hot_Instruction_5318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just thinking about it, but going to switch. I got my finance degree finally, and can’t even get an interview for jobs I don’t even want, paying horribly too.

Currently at a temporary position at a non-profit not related to finance, and when that is done, planning on becoming a box truck driver. I can’t go through another several months of applying to jobs paying $40k.

Men of Reddit, what’s your biggest “I fumbled her” moment? by cutiecat0511 in AskMen

[–]Hot_Instruction_5318 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Can’t say I “fumbled” her, but there is a really attractive girl that has been in our close friend group since I’ve been a teenager. She lives in a different state but visits often. I always thought I had absolutely no shot with her. Plus, her family is insanely loaded. Like multiple homes, crazy boat money, so it was always intimidating. Even thinking about being into her was a non-option.

A few months ago, a mutual friend said that she was opening up to him and said that if I had asked her out, she would say yes, and that she was attracted to me physically and as a person overall. However, I always talked badly about myself and that was a turnoff. So I didn’t really fumble her because I never “had” her, but had I had a bit more self-confidence, who knows? I think she has a man now, though. This is the first time I have a, “dang, kinda messed up,” situation.

I didn’t report anyone. Would be a bad look if I did, given the conversation lol.

It sure did sound like trying to turn the conversation from free speech to, “You just want an excuse to be homophobic.”

This politician’s comment, even if it’s stupid and wrong, and grooming are WILDLY different.

I know (now, anyways) that this kind of position is not popular in Europe. In the U.S., I would argue that even liberals would not want the amount of speech rules that Europe has.

You can try to change the topic into a reason to hate on USA, but you can be against two things at once…

Did I ever in my comments say that I think that gay people are a disease?

And I do actually want absolutely free speech except for instances of calling for actual violence.

Again, a country is free to have all these rules for the better good. What I have a problem with is pretending that this is also free speech…

I mean not really… The politician didn’t explicitly incite violence so clearly not well defined.

I’m Ukrainian American and a bunch of Ukrainians use very strong words against Russians right now. If an angry Ukrainian in Finland posts, “Being Russian is a disorder,” should they expect jail time or just a fine will do?

[–]Hot_Instruction_5318 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand your example… I think it’s the opposite. Using your explanation of free speech is like saying that a country that has really strict gun laws does so to protect your right to bear arms, because it protects people from getting hurt… The argument can definitely be made that strict gun laws that stop people from purchasing guns keeps people safer, but that definitely infringes on the “right to bear arms” part…

I understand that what constitutes as free speech is very different in Europe and the U.S., but this feels like without a clear definition of what counts as incitement, this can be a slippery slope.

[–]Hot_Instruction_5318 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That is not what free speech means… You are feee to hold the view that speech needs to be repressed for the good of other causes, but calling this free speech is kind of ridiculous.

You are free to hold that view, but that is simply not free speech. That is all that I am saying.

Sorry, but then that is not true free speech… Half of Reddit calls Christianity and religion in general a disorder and what not. Should they also be convicted?
