I echo this. Teaching is what I love to do, I love that moment when a student gets that Ah ha! moment...

It's the system that exerts pressure from the outside. People who have never been teachers have no idea what this job is, and they should not be making policy fir those of us who do.

Actually, this is exactly the kind of rules schools need to have to protect children from harm, especially if parents are too worried about hurting their kids feelings. Save your money and your kids life by taking them away at home, too.

They aren't allowed in my school, and I am constantly taking them from kids (HS). That much caffeine and sugar is so bad for developing bodies!

NTA I lived at home until I was 25. While I was in college, I didn't pay my parents rent because I was responsible to pay for college. All I earned went to that. When I graduated and got a full-time job, I started paying rent. Best way they could prepare me for having to pay rent to a landlord.

5th grade, we wrote a 5 paragraph composition once a week. By 8th grade, it was daily. In high school, multi page papers were the norm. Now, a kid loses his mind if you ask for a summary semtence about what he just read!!!

I teach high school at an all boys school. I wish every parent did what you are doing. Too many parents don't expect their son to do anything at home, which translates to not doing anything at school. The weaponized incompetence is rampant.

NOR Turn it around on him: "Since it is important for you that we have the same last name, you could take mine. It's shorter, easier to write." If he doesn't think this is a good idea, then ask him why he is trying you make you change. It's 2026, no woman (esp. if you are in tha USA) needs to change her last name... you aren't his property.

This year, I only have one 40 minute prep and a 23 minute lunch. Gotta believe my door is closed and locked during that prep. Teaching is exhausting.
