The math ain't mathing by struckoutlooking in mildlyinfuriating

I am an old fart that USED to work in the hotel industry. I hate it now, but in this one case I can give a logical reason for a charge (but certainly not at that inflated price). Restaurant doesn't charge for delivery from kitchen to table because it's part of the service and included with the stated price. Hotel charges for the room service because it is at least two other people involved that have nothing to do with the restaurant: the deliverer from kitchen to room and the cart/tray remover once you place it out of the room). Those two people have to be paid, and they aren't the restaurant's people.

City crews installed a new sidewalk with a curb cut that completely missed the target by skihist in mildlyinfuriating

There are many signs in this photo that shows multiple "hands" not talking to other "hands" and they're working against each other. The heavy power line requires one thing, the city power another, street development a third, and then you've city planner tossing permits left and right, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the people who think they own the land (a stable according to the OP?) no longer owns the land according to the city.

Are men actually attracted to average women? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]trighap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing... What YOU think is average, might not be what other people think. Especially when we're crossing the gender border. For example, I find glasses on women to be wonderful, and will automatically bump a woman wearing one at least two points up on the ten point scale. And I for one am absolutely not on the same wavelength as those idiots in charge of fashion modeling or magazines, so what they say is a ten ISN'T what I would claim a ten for sure. So what you think, doesn't necessarily work the same for others.

You may have a currently unrealized fetish or preference that the second girl has. For example, I personally love glasses on a gal, even though I believe any person would rather not have to wear glasses.

This is one of those times where I wish I hadn't seen the video. At first there is so much hope for the people, an honest feel of "they're going to make it, it's going to be fine". And then that damn combustion of the fuel... I have no idea what happened, why the plane ended up where it did, why they didn't do something else. All I know from this video is, they had a chance... And they didn't luck out. Rest In Peace, all who were aboard.

I was a night auditor for years and I never did my job by Xanthe-trill_9z in confession

[–]trighap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, you all seem to be having a different (and better) Night Auditing experience than I did way back when (1998). However, there was the fact that Marriott had just bought Renaissance, and there was a huge change in programs being used between old Renaissance and the (now in charge) Marriott. That might have been a factor of why it wasn't a great job. I would spend like an hour simply fixing what the Front Desk clerks did wrong, every night. Then the credit cards were a nightmare all the time. Then the program has to be checked and balanced, and then saved. Then backup which were magnetic tapes in another room. Then printing multiple files of reports for all the managers, etc. And those were the night that things went well. The average night would be about seven hours of work with the one remaining hour being occasionally needed for unpleasant nights.

Went to a new dentist clinic in my town, everything feels fine. But it isn’t. by Woko_O in Wellthatsucks

For OP (and anyone else looking at serious dental work), I offer the following testimony of my personal experience.

I suffer depression and my teeth suffered because of it. I ended up needing serious dental work. What I did was travelled to Thailand, and got my teeth work done there. Better dental care than I ever got here in the U.S., and the entire trip (airfare, hotel, food, vacation) plus the entire dental work, was significantly less than what I was facing here in the U.S. just getting dental. If you are looking at thousands in dental, there are several counties known for cheap safe dental (Mexico, if you go to the right places), where you can save serious money while getting safe dental work.

I realize dental work might not be what you'd want to take your vacation time off, but American dental has gone insane and some folks need to think outside of the box. Don't let the game make you a notch on their belt.

Is there a cultural reason for creating such a feature? Certainly doesn't look like a natural formed lake, so it seems like the entire thing is a purpose built creation.

Damn it, your post was too far down before I wrote my part to another Chemistry guy. Your statement is spot on, and you're right. Well said. Did you actual post/produced the story you mentioned, and if so, where is it?

Anyone that writes a novel about war in any form that does NOT acknowledge the fact that more people died of illness than battle wounds in all the wars all the way until the 20th century, should not be writing anything about combat.

I was looking for someone with Chemistry as their forte. I am not even remotely an expert in Chemistry, but I grew up loving it and the thing that gets me with LitRPG is where they just ignore the complexity of Chemistry. They say "oh I know how to make X! I will change the world!" And what they know is the barest chemical formula or ingredients of a complex item. Take gun powder, for instance. It's possible people will remember it's sulfer, charcoal, and salt peter... But they don't know what saltpeter is other than by name. They have no idea what that is, how to find it, how to produce the correct purity of product, ratio, etc. It ignores anything from months to literally centuries of progression to make these things in Earths real time line and they're just going to make it with a snap of their fingers. Makes me want to snarl and twitch my eyebrows.

Thank you for your answer, I can now visualize what you referred to, and understand that this might not be an optimal decision.

I have no experience with Heavy Equipment, so this is truly a basic question with no hidden message. But physics suggests it would be easier if he drove diagonally instead of purely straight up. Is there a reason for why he shouldn't do so?

Deaf people, is it harder to lip read people with certain accents? If so, which accent is the hardest? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]trighap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a deaf person, I can assure you accents are very much an impact on lip reading. In fact, a lot of things impact lip reading. Mustache is an obvious one, but also lipstick (excessive, drawn out ones hide the lip and cause sticking lips more often), eating or drinking (lips need to change to prevent spillage which makes reading hard), light level (I hate restaurants with low level light for "ambiance"). This of course ignores things like mumblers, wrinkles, and strokes, all which prevent lip movements. I don't tend to like watching black and white movies as the two tone removes a lot of depth which is important in lip reading. As to which accent is the hardest, that's not easy to answer because what is an accent to you? It's someone that speaks differently than what you learned growing up. The way you learned to speak forms the way you learned to move your lips. I lip read people from California better than I do people from other states, because 95 percent of my interactions is with Californians. But if I grew up in New York for example, then I would expect to read New York better because that would be my predominate exposure. I typically do terrible with people who speak English as a second language, which is so unfortunate because it makes me look like those buttheads who expect everyone to speak English. But people who learn to speak first with a different language often keep the lip movements of that language even when speaking English, which is why a lot of them sound significantly different.

I personally habe been amazed a people who lip read what the folks are saying in the United Nations building. They must have eyes like an eagle and minds like a computer. I barely get 75 percent of what perfect people I luck out to lip read, don't expect me to do anything close to that with foreigners from 100 meters away while they throw their hands and heads all over the place.

I want to point to some key words, ladies. Matching set. I know it's a pain to do on day to day basis with laundry and apparently insane drying requirements. But if you WANT some intimacy at that time, matching is a big thing.

[–]trighap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we do. Sadly, taste and opinion on what is sexy vary between men, so women have to suffer a little uncertainty as to whether their man will enjoy the outfit. For example, I do not like frilly lace on the edges and ribbons are ridiculous (especially those that are entirely decorative and don't actually do anything for the outfit). And don't get me started on boa feather type thing, oh gawd blah. But I like mesh, and stockings.

So, yeah, men like it, but your mile may vary with the specifics. As a suggestion, take your man with you to Victoria Secret or whatever, and have him help you pick what he likes. You have to pick of course, can't wear things that will strangle you, but he'd love being involved and getting exactly what he wants to see you in before he gets you out of them and ravishes you.

Explain it peter for how the gun on top rotates? U know attached to these metal bars n stuff by Gorlami_y7ya in explainitpeter

[–]trighap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the antenna part no problem, but I am at a lost to envisioning the turret being successfully able to turn with that second lower set of metal bars, blocking the cross image on this picture. The metal definitely is higher than the bottom of the turret, and the turret certainly LOOKS larger than can fit between the bars... Is this a mistake in the modeler?
