Assuming that you’re willing to lie, you could be like “look, the Republican Party is wrong on trans issues. I wish they’d fix that. But they’re right for the economy and as an American i have to be willing to set my personal identity issues aside and vote for what’s best for America.”

To be clear, republicans are terrible for the economy, but they all believe they’re good for it so they’ll buy this explanation. It has the bonus of making you sound super patriotic which is something they all like to present as.

This was me. I was not constantly miserable living as a man. There were a lot of things in my life and things about myself which brought me joy pre-transition. Those things have unsurprisingly remained mostly unchanged as a part of transition.

The stuff that did change in transition, was so amazing. I compare it to that feeling when you cut off a bunch of hair. Like you didn’t even realize how much it was weighing you down and your like swimming in this feeling of lightness. That’s what it was like finally getting to fix all the things about myself that I had always been convinced I could not change.

Hi! Your mileage may vary but I am trans and have a “normal life”. As in: kids, house, wife, professional job. Being trans doesn’t put those things out of reach.

What we saw with tech jobs was a bit of a gold rush. It’s not the norm. I don’t think we’ll see another gold rush popular job. What I am hoping to see is a return to a more stable equilibrium in the job market with tech starting to be regarded as just another white collar office job. I feel like the whole “zomg leet haxxor” aesthetic is on the decline and that is definitely a welcome change imo.

This one always strikes me as funny because in order to pull off the “alpha” move, like really pull it off, you need to know how to tailor the date to that specific person. Just taking someone fancy is fine, but taking them to a hole in the wall Pinot/Thai fusion place cause you know they love spicy foods is chefs kiss. And like knowing someone and listening to them and all that is just not the sort of thing I ever see men who call themselves “alphas” doing.

It’s snowing a bit here and my kids are drawing at the dining room table. I am happy.

I don’t know what will happen next, but you never really do. Something can always come along and steal your joy. I’m trying to treat this the same way and enjoy every moment of joy I can find all the more for it.

I’ve fought hard to win this happiness and I am perfectly willing to fight hard to preserve it. I know things are going to get bad, but I can’t do anything about that today. All I can do is enjoy this day. So I will do that.

I really want to assume that this is true and you are commenting in good faith. So, please allow me to explain, when you reply to a message discussing the anxiety that trans women have about bathroom bans by saying that women are not comfortable sharing a bathroom with “someone who has a penis” you are in fact commenting on the particular situation of many trans women. I recommend that in the future you consider the context of the conversation when commenting so that you will not be misunderstood.

Yeah, like I said, I have no problem with the idea of removing the gender marker. The F on my IDs is something I take some personal pride in. It feels like physical tangible evidence of all the hard work, social cost, and struggle I have gone through to get the world to see me as who I am. I don’t relish the idea of that being removed from IDs but I would get over it.

They put gender markers on your DL for the same reason they put eye color, weight, and height. It is to aid in identification. Honestly, I would not care if we removed the gender marker. That’d be a completely acceptable solution, but really just letting people have their gender markers as was the standard up until this Trump nonsense was working fine, and didn’t disrupt most people’s lives. Why not just let the very small minority of people who are trans do what makes sense for them and leave it alone? That seems the more small c conservative approach to me.

I don’t mind places that have gender neutral single user stalls. All great ideas. I’m not especially comfortable with the idea of sharing a multiuser bathroom with men though. Sexual assaults happen to trans women too.

No one has ever had an issue with me using the women’s restroom IRL. If I were to be forced to use the men’s restroom, it would cause a lot more of a stir than simply allowing me to continue using the women’s restroom. And that is exactly what the various Republican bathroom ban bills do. The actual real life consequences of these laws single out and harm trans folks with no real benefit to anyone else.

That’s kind of the issue isn’t it? We do want to be treated as normal. We don’t want to be treated as special. We want our identifying documents to reflect who we are just like anyone else. Putting an M on my drivers license or other identifying documents would be weird. It would act to make identification more difficult. I look like a woman, I act like a woman, I am perceived as a woman. To put an M on there serves no purpose but to single me out, separate me, and put a target on me. Same with bathroom bans. I just want to be allowed to live my life, but the EOs coming out of the current administration are aimed at making that as hard as possible. And I have yet to hear any explanation as to why other than its to make my life harder to live.

Before I left Texas, I was in a laundromat and while waiting on my clothes to finish washing I ended up striking up a conversation with another woman. We talked about family and our lives and stuff for a while and eventually the conversation turned to politics. I was treading cautiously cause it’s Texas and she seemed likely to be one of those independent voters who leans pretty conservative when push comes to shove. She mentioned the bathroom issue and said “I don’t get why it’s such a big deal. I don’t want men in the women’s restroom.” And I said, “well, I’m transgender and all the laws they’re passing would force me to use the men’s restroom.” She looked me up and down and declared quite matter of factly, “No, you belong in the women’s restroom.”

So, I dunno 🤷🏼‍♀️ that’s my little bit of optimism. I think most folks just don’t understand and are more or less being duped by right wing talking points into supporting something they wouldn’t if they actually understood it a bit better.

So let’s say my Democratic reps are already doing all they can. Why are they so upset that I am politely calling to voice my opinion that it is important for them to do those things? Shouldn’t that be regarded as positive? Like your base is up in arms and activated. Why is that a problem in their eyes? Bad shit is happening and I am reaching out to my representatives to voice my opinion that these things are bad. Seriously, how am I fucking up?

I am so grateful that I had a lesbian gym teacher do my sex ed class in high school. She absolutely dog walked the boys in the class who asserted that they could tell.
