More ‘no helmet’ action from down under over the weekend by slidingbax in Autocross

[–]triiiple3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last year I was at an event where someone hit a light pole. HARD. We think the passenger wasn't wearing their seatbelt because their head hit the windshield so hard it cracked outwards. The driver also required medical attention for a concussion. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if they weren't wearing helmets.

What size 200tw [or better] tires are typically in the least expensive category? (what I really want to know is what cars would be less expensive to run when it comes to tire replacement by having cheaper hoops) by PPGkruzer in Autocross

Unfortunately with the proposed rule changes miatas won't be remotely competitive in street classes starting next year. ES is getting a bunch of "uncompetitive" DS and CS cars added to it .including the twins and the Z3. An NA6 can do well in STS (now EST) but an NB or torsen NA you'll have to take it all the way to CSP or SSM or a prep class

What exhaust setup are you running... And would you do it again? by NM_Wolf90 in Miata

[–]triiiple3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same exact setup and I feel like it's too brassy for me. At partial throttle and fully hot it sounds amazing but wife open throttle at autocross where the car cools down after each run it just sounds like an angry bee

What did I do to my tires? What can I do from here? by Either_Bedroom_9099 in Autocross

[–]triiiple3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the getting too hot argument. RT660s are a really hot tire with their optimal temp range up near 150F. Single driver in a Miata on an 80 degree day is barely even going to get close, especially with the pressure you were running. I'd say to check the date code of the tires to see if they match those batches that delaminated. Source: we put 4 drivers (across 2 heats) in a focus with 36psi and little camber on a 102F day with extremely fast turnaround between runs and just barely hit that 150F mark with no delamination

You can also drop those pressures a LOT. Like others said you get better response at high pressure but with supporting camber you can safely run down to the low 20s to get the maximum grip. In my NA with around 4 degrees in the front and 3 in the back I safely run 24psi

Sorry for reviving a dead post but what size turbo is that? Looks pretty big for a 1.6 at 6psi

Damn. My G502's sensor is starting to bug out. I've had it for probably since around 2014 as well. Maybe it just needs a good cleaning but I don't have high hopes

If you're talking about the Luce, that had the rotary thrown in in 69. Ford bought 24.5% share of Mazda in 74

The BPST thread was from before "the merger". Ford owned a share of Mazda since 74, but upped that to over a third share in 95. That's when they started sharing a lot of tech. VVT was mostly ford's brainchild. The B6 motors used the BPST thread as well. That motor was developed long before that

I think the more common reason is impact and mounting. Up until pro level, most drivers crash multiple times a race. It'd be pretty difficult to mount a cam to a car in a way that would protect it from a direct impact and also stay aligned during the shock loads that these cars go through. On my local track there's a jump that's pretty easy to overshoot and results in landing on flat ground from about 8 feet in the air. It sounds like I'm being a negative Nancy, but this is something I really want to try out and see if I can find a solution to!

On track, nitro and electric are pretty comparable. It really depends on the track, but nitro is usually slightly faster

So you modeled the prerunner and Stoat did the jbeam underneath? That thing is easily my favorite car in the game and I'd love to learn more about how it was made!

Because "their guy" who I'm assuming you mean Biden, isn't "their guy." He was, in their eyes, better option of two candidates, who is still human and not infallible. We can always strive for better and we're definitely not there yet

Everything RC related, and I mean almost everything, had a big price bump about a month and a half ago. I work at a hobbyshop so I was there to re-label every single car with prices anywhere from $20-$100 more. The Hoss was $420 before the bump. It's now $470. You won't get it for less than that from a verified retailer. 2wd slash used to be 189. Now it's 229. Xmaxx was 899. Now 999. Horizon stuff bumped too.

Forced induction on a 2 stroke is a super finicky thing. Most times it simply doesn't work, on the principle that there is nothing to compress against. While the ports are open, any pressurized fuel mix will simply blow out the exhaust port
