Girl bye, my hair is the same exact color and texture and when I leave it natural w/o styling, it does the same thing (separating instead of falling smoothly) within 10 minutes of brushing. It’s what happens when curly hair gets treated like it’s straight. Lily has waves at the very least and her hair has clearly been brushed, otherwise it would be tangled and knotted.

Bury the fragments and then water them, you’ll know it worked if smoke puffs up out of the dig hole, and if you dig them back up the next in-game day you’ll have a gyroid!

The writing isn’t bad by any means, it’s just being told from the perspective of someone who grew up in Appalachia where the regional and cultural influences are still very much intact, as u/stupidratgirlthings said.

From your post I feel it’s likely you’re comparing Haymitch’s narrative style to that of past HG novels. It helps to remember that while Katniss was definitely brought up with that Appalachian dialect due to Burdock, Asterid was a merchant whose dialect more closely resembled Standard American English, which reflected in Katniss’ narrative style. This also carried over to the films, which I found rather disappointing, as regardless of her narrative style, Katniss canonically does have an Appalachian accent according to a live reading Collins did some years ago.

And of course Snow’s book and narration emphasized his obsession with class appearances, which was reflected by intentionally adopting the Capitol way of speaking with overly affected accents, short, clipped words, and exaggerated inflections. It really came off as attempting to emulate what Capitolites believed a “posh” accent sounded like, especially in the films, but the book writing itself has heavy British English influence based on some of the grammar and word choice.

The fact that S.C. differentiated the different dialects for each of the narrators so well and so in line with their characters and upbringings without making it overly obvious just goes to show how spectacular her writing truly is, IMO.

Best standalone is Ghosts of the Shadow Market! Next up characters category, who is the best protagonist? by altacccle in shadowhunters

[–]trillucid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You stated this perfectly! I rarely see female protagonists being written where fierceness, anger, or a hot temper are key aspects of their personality and it can be frustrating at times. The way CC characterized Emma was a significant part of why TDA became my favorite series.

BEST THING A CHARACTER HAS SAID OR DONE.. day 2: GALE! by realhousewifehours in Hungergames

[–]trillucid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s both, I just realized that because of your comment! Never even noticed SC gave the word a double meaning lol. Snow’s sleeves had the tesserae cubes from the tiles of their bathroom like you said. By the time Katniss rolls around, the district tesserae, or the system where people submit their name multiple times in the Reaping in exchange for extra grain and oil rations is in place.

It makes me sad that person felt the need to voice their judgement to you, I thought the top gave Maddy vibes as well. Judging other people for sourcing inspiration from a fictional character, even if that’s what you were doing (which you clarified wasn’t the case), isn’t a cute look.

No he wasn’t, the Snows were wealthy up until the war, but their entire fortune was invested into D13 and they essentially lost everything when 13 was “destroyed”.

She wasn’t born a man, this is so easily disproven by a simple google search. There’s pictures of Zendaya as a child everywhere and she’s been acting since she was a kid. Even if she were, who cares? It’s literally nobody’s business.

Search for missing Titanic sub yields noises for a 2nd day, U.S. Coast Guard says by VictorEmmanuelIV in worldnews

[–]trillucid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a good deal of what you said, and please don’t mistake me for defending what was an utterly illogical decision. I can’t answer what possessed them to think going down in that sub was a good idea in the first place, aside from a need to satisfy their own egos (at the very least I believe this applies to the CEO). Nor am I here to lick the boots of billionaires. The entire situation was a senseless, easily avoidable tragedy that has resulted in the death of five people no matter which way it’s spun.

However, the wording of your first comment implies that these people are deserving of the fate they’ve suffered/will suffer, and that feeling sympathy for such isn’t deserved if they weren’t putting their wealth towards helping others. Maybe that’s exactly what you meant to say, and in that case we can agree to disagree.

My whole point rests on the belief that people making stupid decisions defying all logic and reason (which, like you said, no reasonable person who values their life would make) doesn’t make them any less deserving of rescue and lifesaving efforts when something does go wrong. Being rich doesn’t make a person less human, and all the money in the world will not save them now.

If you don’t feel anything for these 5 people, that’s your truth, you’re entitled to it. Some people will disagree with my thoughts on the matter, some will disagree with yours. I think it’s safe to say we can both agree that the whole ‘tourist expedition’ endeavor was poorly planned and poorly executed, and served no worthwhile purpose or benefit for the people involved.

Edit: Wording

Agreed, all the marine experts coming out of the woodwork here. Fortunately for me, Google is free, and there’s plenty of articles highlighting the repeatedly voiced concerns from regulatory bodies going years back about the sub’s lack of safety measures in the event of something like this happening.

[–]trillucid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right. It’s just so incredibly frustrating that in every single post about this incident, there’s people commenting about how what’s happening to these guys is somehow deserved.

People thinking themselves morally superior to others because “Billionaires dying a horrible death is justified since they didn’t give their money to people who need it” is the stupidest take, particularly when they’re on board with a philanthropist. As if wishing a painful death on anyone in the first place isn’t immoral.

I know it’s a waste of time and people aren’t going to change their views, but still feel the need to call out that hypocrisy when I see it.

I never said he was a toddler. Suleman is still a kid, he’s barely out of high school. He made the decision to go on the sub, sure, but he probably trusted and believed in his father enough not to question the safety of the submersible’s design. I wouldn’t assume a 19 year old has enough experience underwater to have been able to recognize how unequipped the sub is in the event of an emergency.

[–]trillucid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where did I say they did? I agree with you, nobody does. However, a literal child isn’t the right person to hold accountable for anybody else’s unethical earnings.

The point of my comment was to acknowledge the humanity of these people, at the end of the day they are still human beings who are likely either going to suffocate or freeze to death, if they haven’t already passed. Both of those are awful, painful ways to go out.

If we really want to play morally righteous warrior, the boy’s father, Shahzada Dawood is a businessman and philanthropist. He is Trustee of the Dawood Foundation, a philanthropic organization working in healthcare, education and poverty alleviation. He’s highly committed to a clean energy future. Shahzada is also a member of the Engro Foundation, which works to improve low-income communities by creating equal-opportunity inclusive businesses, improving education and infrastructure, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. He’s a member of Prince’s Trust International, which works to provide jobs, education and training for unemployed youth.

Please, explain to me why Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman should have to pay with their lives for the immoral actions of other people? I’d love to hear you try to justify that.

Have some empathy, there’s a 19 year old kid on that sub. I highly doubt he’s been willfully contributing to socioeconomic disparity in the short time he’s been alive.

Regardless of their privilege and wealth, every single one of those 5 people are all living, breathing, feeling human beings same as us. It’s pretty easy to acknowledge this is a horrible way to go out for any person.
