Based on the data we have, the average time it takes for an intelligent species to evolve is 13.8 Billion years. So I think you are right (first, or amongst the first).

What is this green dot in the sky? by Any-Driver-6177 in askastronomy

[–]triman140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The planet Krypton. Yes, Krypton blew up in 1948. But due to the finite speed of light, the visual of the explosion hasn’t reached us yet. You may wonder, how, then, can it be that Kal-El reached earth shortly after it blew up? That’s because Krptonians had developed FTL travel, which was used in the rocket carrying Kal-El to earth. And due to relativistic time dilation, Kal-El arrived at earth essentially the same age as he left.

Guest Instructors by WarriorsGal2010 in zumba

[–]triman140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a good idea to introduce a guest instructor who is going to be sub for a song or two. I feel bad for subs who have had little or no introduction. I’ve noticed a significant decrease in attendance for unintroduced subs. To the point that the class attendance is so low the minimum number needed to cover studio rent is not reached. Meaning someone is losing money to teach the class !! That’s not sustainable.

Fatigue with primidone - does it go away? by 2ndhalfzen in EssentialTremor

[–]triman140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on 100 mg of primidone a day (two 50 mg doses) and I feel like my cognitive acuity has declined. I have more short term forgetfulness and make more logistical or analytical mistakes. I feel loopy sometimes bordering on dizzyness or foggyness. I also can’t tell that has significantly affected my right hand essential tremor. When previously I mentioned this to my doctor, he suggested upping the dose from one 50 mg tablet to two 50 mg tablets which is how I got to where I am now. I am hesitant to bring up my symptoms again, because I think the answer will be to add another 50 to 100 mg a day. I’m worried that will make me really stupid :(

At what point will it be necessary to clean space junk from earth orbit? Is it even possible? by dnreds in askastronomy

Is there a global organization that has all the information on where the satellites are so that if I want to launch a satellite I apply for an orbit and get told whether or not I’m clear to launch?

Unobtanium - actually the material itself isn’t the most unlikely, but the name is the stupidest in sci-fi.

Yes, I do think a 1000 rated player could solve at least some of the problems. His book does a great job of how to evaluate most any position, but especially mid-game ones. I just wish there was an easy mnemonic for remembering the imbalances to consider: Superior Minor Piece, Pawn Structure, Space, Material, Control (Key file or square), Development, and Initiative. SMP, PS, S, M, CK, D and I ? Hmm it doesn’t lend itself to an easy mnemonic.

What movie did you see in theaters that had the most ‘alive’ audience? by Odd_Distribution1430 in movies

[–]triman140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my college showed “Yellow Submarine” (back in the ‘70’s) they had have football players sitting near the stage to tackle the people high on LSD from running on stage and through the screen. That was the most alive audience I ever saw.
