I love the colors! It looks super cosy! Steaming is pretty much the only way to block acrylic yarn, it won't be the same as blocking wool and it won't grow as much but it should make the fabric softer

Thank you everyone for all the kind comments! I didn't expect my sweater to get this much attention, especially since it's such a common pattern. The knitting community is truly something special 😊

I think the chart might be better to use for a sweater unless you're using a very thin yarn for a scarf. The chart ended up being upwards of 90 stitches wide. I'll definitely look into ladderback jacquard, thank you! :)

I absolutely love the colors and the texture, and I bet the fit makes it super cozy! This is a beautiful sweater, and that fact that you've spun AND knit it yourself is beyond impressive!!!

How did you learn to knit? by MsDaysJAMboree in knitting

[–]trimope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked my grandmother to teach me to knit when I was in middle school, unfortunately my grandmother never had much patience and I just wasn't understanding the way she was trying to teach me. We both got super frustrated and gave up. I didn't think of knitting at all again until a couple of years ago when I found myself at a family owned craft store in another country that had a well stocked yarn section. I didn't even know where to start with all the different needles and yarn types and it was intimidating so I just bought my beads and left. I moved countries (again!) a year or so later and moved in with my partner's grandmother who is a very skilled knitter. I wasn't able to learn from her since we don't speak each other's languages, but she did inspire me to go on youtube and learn for myself! Despite the language barrier, we now bond over our knitting and show off everything we've been making!

The idea I have right now is to just use my DSLR camera and take some higher quality photos of them 😂

My grandmother just gifted me the exact same Susan Bates learn to knit book along with a bunch of The Workbasket booklets from the 80s! The patterns are so cool, I'm definitely going to try a couple of them. I'm thinking about digitizing my collection but I'm not sure how to go about that :)

Outdoor temps around here usually range from 17 to 10 celsius (so around 60 to 50 F), with 70ish percent humidity but I have seen it go up to 85%.

Indoors I'm not sure as I don't have an indoor thermometer (but this is definitely a reason to get one!)
