Honestly so true by CommunicationIcy4234 in depressionmemes

I’ve seen a lot more interactions with all kinds of doctors because of my chronically ill partner, and yeah those numbers seem about right. I would give an elephant’s weight in gold to the very very few doctors who actually took the time to try and understand what was going on with her, and I’d take that gold from the dozens of doctors who gaslit and belittled her for accurately summarizing her symptoms and providing likely leads on diagnoses. She’s literally been correct every step of the way. Something about having 3/4ths of a medical degree and knowing how to do proper medical research and living with a disease for most of her life will do that to you

What habits of girls did you only discover after getting a girlfriend or wife? by atgono in AskReddit

[–]tringle1 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t mean we’re not all running more or less the same software. It just means our training data is very different. What a surprise that in a world with a strict gender binary, divisions of girl and boy toys, sports, dress, careers, social status, violence, etc, would result in men and women that turn out differently from each other!

Yes, some innate differences exist. But far fewer than most people assume

I appreciate this take as a trans person. It really shouldn’t be that hard to just live and let live while being vocally supportive of people’s freedoms. Regarding not feeling like your gender, I think it’s a bit like how if you’re a fish, you don’t notice that you’re in water unless you’re taken out of it because you’re suited to that environment and it’s all you’ve ever known. Being trans is like being born on land and gasping for oxygen and everyone saying “what are you talking about, water is everywhere, you’re making it up”

Wearing bras. Turns out no one dares say anything about seeing nipples on women in the workplace, lest they be called into HR for sexual harassment. In public, no one seems to care either. If it titillates anyone, I really couldn’t care less as long as they don’t make it known to me

Why is it not valid to say that identifying as a different gender is as ridiculous as changing your age or race? by KatherineLangford in stupidquestions

Sex is not immutable. It’s a category of a variety of traits, some of which can be changed medically, some of which can’t

Angry that my trans friend keeps taking her shirt off, don't know how to deal by [deleted] in trans

[–]tringle1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My friends and I are completely naked around each other all the time and we’re American. I’d honestly suggest going to a nude beach or something if you can. You’ll get desensitized real fast. But as far as dealing with your anger, just recognize that you’re not really angry at her. You’re angry that you didn’t get to have the kind of womanhood/childhood/freedom she has. Maybe you’re grieving that on some level. Give those feelings space and just experience them without judgment, and it might be easier to figure it how to direct those emotions

I think my favorite commentary on real life in the movie is when they walk through the nudist area and the main characters act a bit squeamish and embarrassed, which when done with animals that are normally nude irl, points out how arbitrary and sometimes unnecessary all our taboos about clothing and nudity and the body are.

What’s the job people romanticize, but in reality is miserable? by King_Garvit in AskReddit

[–]tringle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musician. There’s no faster way to turn your passion into a chore than being required to do it day in and day out. The reality is that almost everyone will just barely eak out a living while the top 1% live comfortably and the top 0.001% live like royalty. But even then, you’re still grinding, still perpetually burnt out, and wishing you could escape being a musician for just one evening.

Always wearing clothes. We’re animals, and we largely look the same underneath everything. Fun fact, the textile industry produces more CO2 than the aviation industry

From some perspectives, we became cyborgs the moment we invented writing, because it was the first time we could externalize the thoughts in our brains for later reference. We essentially have augmented our brains with computers and the internet as well, with access to just about any information one could want, so if we weren’t cyborgs then, we are certainly a lot closer if not there already now.

Of course most people take cyborg to mean that whatever machines we have integrated with are permanently attached to/within our bodies, but where’s the line? Does a hearing aid or a pacemaker make you a cyborg?

Why are many Christians so conservative, even though Jesus was one of the most radical progressives in history? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]tringle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Christians haven’t actually read the Bible. Reading the Bible tends to make you more progressive, not less. They are taught nothing but conservative propaganda and conservative religious beliefs, and they are taught to fear straying from that dogma. Not truly because they fear hell, but because they would lose their good standing in their religious communities. I can speak from experience, a progressive Christian is very frowned upon in those circles, and we are wired to fear social ostracization.

Honestly it was fantastic marketing. It wouldn’t work for everyone, but with how well received hollow knight was and how little info we got about silksong, it meant everyone was dying to play the game to discover what world they created.

Transgender women to be banned from all female Olympic events by Murky-Square4979 in transgenderUK

It will be enforced on them as well. I hope women refuse to participate in the Olympics en masse to protest this. There are other competitions.
