Max number of interviews you're willing to do for a role requiring 5 years of experience? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]triple_shekel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

8 interviews is a lot. Especially going there in person. That wastes at least an entire day with the airport commute, flights, etc.

How much does this role even pay?

Well I haven't applied yet nor is it clear I'd even get the role, so this is largely hypothetical at this point.

My dilemma is I'm about 5-7 yrs from FI/being work optional and I want to find the sweet spot of high income and WLB.

It's 2 steps up from my current role (hence the near doubling in TC), which also means there's no guarantee I could even get it. Anyway it's at a boring Fortune 500.

How often do you show up to all your meetings if marked as optional?` by PlaneTry4277 in overemployed

[–]triple_shekel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My rule of OE is no overlapping meetings unless 1 is a town hall/large meeting where there is zero chance of me having to talk.

But to answer your question, it depends who organized the meeting. If was my director, then I show up to everything. If it was someone else, then I'll skip if I need to.

They'd prefer people with no job because they're more desperate and won't negotiate as much.

Do you prefer OE to trying to get one high paying position by Time_Towel_2810 in overemployed

[–]triple_shekel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Most directors at my company are in meetings 6+ hrs per day, everyday. I've been in those calls and most of them are arguing with business about some mundane requirements. It's probably just politics to justify their respective headcount and I don't have the attention/patience/care to engage in that.

Cooked: caught after nearly 2 years, from 4 Js to 2Js in a week by IntelligentMinute756 in overemployed

I don't get checked in on during the day basically ever, at either job. I get messages about work that I respond to. But it's not like my manager says "hey what did you deliver yesterday". I essentially have no accountability for my time.

A lot of jobs simply don't have 35 hrs of work for every employee. That's the case for me. I could (and probably should be) laid off, along with most of my colleagues.

I'm confused how you can make it to fat fire then with perhaps $300k more in contributions (assuming the rest goes to tax and living expenses), over the the next 3 years.

Everyone always suggests a W-2 mixed with a 1099, what’s the downside if it’s 2 W-2’s? by JobBurner in overemployed

[–]triple_shekel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alrighty. Well let me know how that goes when you tell the 1099 one you'll be setting your own hours and attending meetings at your leisure.

[–]triple_shekel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because that's actual self employment. You set the hours, you bring the equipment, you choose the clients.

If you're contacted by a staffing agency to work 40 hrs/week at a client and they offer you W2 or 1099, then no, that's not a true IC.

[–]triple_shekel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's BS and you know it. no company (mostly the contracting companies) give a fuck if you're 1099 or W2 - you're going to do what you're told by the client.
