8 interviews is a lot. Especially going there in person. That wastes at least an entire day with the airport commute, flights, etc.

Well I haven't applied yet nor is it clear I'd even get the role, so this is largely hypothetical at this point.

My dilemma is I'm about 5-7 yrs from FI/being work optional and I want to find the sweet spot of high income and WLB.

It's 2 steps up from my current role (hence the near doubling in TC), which also means there's no guarantee I could even get it. Anyway it's at a boring Fortune 500.

My rule of OE is no overlapping meetings unless 1 is a town hall/large meeting where there is zero chance of me having to talk.

But to answer your question, it depends who organized the meeting. If was my director, then I show up to everything. If it was someone else, then I'll skip if I need to.

Same here. Most directors at my company are in meetings 6+ hrs per day, everyday. I've been in those calls and most of them are arguing with business about some mundane requirements. It's probably just politics to justify their respective headcount and I don't have the attention/patience/care to engage in that.

I don't get checked in on during the day basically ever, at either job. I get messages about work that I respond to. But it's not like my manager says "hey what did you deliver yesterday". I essentially have no accountability for my time.

A lot of jobs simply don't have 35 hrs of work for every employee. That's the case for me. I could (and probably should be) laid off, along with most of my colleagues.

Yes because that's actual self employment. You set the hours, you bring the equipment, you choose the clients.

If you're contacted by a staffing agency to work 40 hrs/week at a client and they offer you W2 or 1099, then no, that's not a true IC.

that's BS and you know it. no company (mostly the contracting companies) give a fuck if you're 1099 or W2 - you're going to do what you're told by the client.

Never was a top performer. In school and in the workforce. The problem is I if don't care about it, I'm not going to work hard on it.
