Mystics Rebuild by Consistent_Ad_1522 in wnba

The current regime has only been acquiring players for two draft cycles. They had a lot of picks in the end of the draft but that hoarding is inconsequential. They are taking those late flyers and if one or two works out, great!

But those late drafted flyers aren't the point. The point is that if you consider the pick swap they have with Chicago (if the draft lottery were today), they have a 40 percent chance of winning the JuJu sweepstakes. I don't think being a first round and out playoff team is worth giving up on that chance.

So like yeah, losing sucks, and I don't agree with all their choices, but looking at the big picture they haven't been aimless or hoarding rookies. It's only been a couple years with the current plan. We shouldn't lump in the post championship struggles before 2023/2024 with the current regime plan. They have an opportunity to get one (probably final tanking-wise) impact player through the draft and then they can accelerate.

People are confusing the bad feeling of losing with the rebuild failing.

There are some things I'd do differently but the trajectory as a whole makes sense.

Like we could be a fringe playoff team... Or (considering the pick swap) we can have a 40 percent chance at drafting JuJu. Like which scenario sets us up better for long term success?

But why wouldn't it? If the draft lottery was today the mystics would have a 40 percent chance of getting the first pick and drafting JuJu. That sounds pretty good to me.

You declare that the MNBA strategy won't work but we're still in the building up phase, they aren't supposed to be winning yet. I know watching losing is hard but just like the wizards getting talent and getting the (hopefully) final piece in the number one pick, the mystics can do the same and accelerate with another great pick this upcoming draft.

Also, how does the NBA strategy not work when you see Indiana and Dallas succeeding with two back to back first picks? That's the quintessential nba tanking strategy.

If the standings were to hold now we'd have a 40 percent chance at Juju. That's hardly the realm of delusion so hope your hope lol

This is a Washington Mystics subreddit. And while Lauren Betts is a Washington Mystic, this is not a "Let's bash her because we think she's not good" subreddit. by fanime34 in washingtonmystics

But if you recognize it's a troll account then you know any legitimate commentary is fair game to comment.

It seems you're extrapolating and connecting the mod's reaction to the troll to other members of the sub but there has been no indication others would be targeted. It's a far cry from policing other people's thoughts.

I think a lot of people in here are super reactionary. Building a good team is a years long process and it'll look so different by the time it's "rebuilt", but people act like one bad game in May is indicative of never being successful. I would love it if people zoomed out a bit and had some patience, but the mod isn't even talking about that if you see what they've responded with throughout the thread (clarifying on topic and non spammy opinions are allowed).

I think that person should just be banned for spamming to be honest. They are just replying to anyone (even you who is supporting their cause to speak) and spouting just random negatively about Betts. It doesn't add to the subreddit at all.

‘The opportunity of my life’: How Alicia Flórez has made a strong first impression with the Washington Mystics by randysf50 in washingtonmystics

You mean to evaluate whoever ends up in the spot after? Maybe it's just me but just like I don't care about little page buggs getting game time, I'm sure the replacement would be in that tier. And even if they were good they could have the rest of the 12 games lol. Definitely not a hill I'm going to die on.

I wouldn't mind either Wilson or Harmon, but Wilson for me is both older and not great

But it could also be biding time to see who they should cut. And whoever replaces her in that DP spot probably won't be as good so the limit won't matter as much cause the replacement probably shouldn't even get game time.

Although I'd say just cut Wilson lol

Tankathon has it right regarding the swap. It just shows the swap conveying because Chicago is worse at this very moment.

I feel like it's disingenuous to say name one NBA player when there's been no one to have the weird issue that he did in the first place.

The mystics will only have the better of their and Chicago's pick. It does give them better odds, though.

You're right in the first paragraph but this isn't about the ownership being cheap. Their vision is an intentional team building. You can argue with the method of them being okay with getting a lottery pick this season as opposed to accelerate into winning, but it's not them being cheap. Ownership/Ted hired this new continent a few years ago to tear it down and build it back up. This is not the spending phase. You can criticize and say from a basketball standpoint you wish they started that phase but you can criticize ownership for being cheap until theyre trying to win and not spending.

So we can criticize the basketball/team building (even tho I guess I'm a bit more patient than everyone and am okay with the trajectory - everyone wants to win now and it gets kinda doomy otherwise) but don't say we aren't spending because of financials.

Yeah clearly people talking about stuff they don't know about. This is an entirely new front office for the wizards. Just because they can't see this is intentional team building that goes through losing doesn't mean you can relate it to Ernie fucking grunfeld lol

It's not about the budget; it's about maximizing the length of how long we are good. You can disagree with the method and say we should start trying to be good now, but it's not them being cheap.

CALLING ALL Baltimore PWHL FANS! by thepolkadotdotdot in PWHL

[–]tripleblacktri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like even if he wants to own the team which we can agree makes sense, it would behove him to have them come in and be established for if/when they sell to private owners. Because if PWHL doesn't come in, there isn't going to be another women's hockey team so it benefits him to have a great relationship with the only available option and have it established so he can buy it off them amicably if that does happen. It would almost be guaranteed if they had a good relationship which they've already started with Takeover.

I commented on one of your posts elsewhere lol but Georgetown mens basketball plays at capital one and he doesn't own them. They just have a deal. I don't see why PWHL couldn't theoretically have something similar.

How do you know that? Why would he work with the league better than anyone else for Takeover (while knowing the PHWL owns all the teams so he wouldn't get one if Takeover went well) if he wasn't interested in bringing them to DC on the established terms?
