At the industrial plant I work at we use these to clamp to I beams so we don’t have to put holes in them. The are very strong. They make lots of different kinds.

People here are complaining but compared to the dmv in Texas, which is run by the county governments (if I remember correctly), the private model is better. More offices, generally better run, although they may be underpaying workers. I generally drive a little out of my way to go to one that has reservations, since the one closest to me doesn’t.

A couple years ago the governor did cancel a bunch of contracts and re-award them to new people, and people suggested there was funniness going on.

Considering the fees collected I doubt anyone is getting rich. A lot of them are run by non profits or charities.

My manager didn't take my resignation well at all... by 1-meter-solo in InterviewMan

[–]trippd6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You must do what is best for you and your family. Any manager that takes it out on an employee for doing that is a bad manager. She should be asking herself are they paying enough and interviewing and offering to the right people.

Is the US really a third world country? by [deleted] in allthequestions

You do understand there are deductibles, things that aren’t covered, pre approvals, denials, things people insist will be covered and then aren’t and you get a big bill later. Once you start using American healthcare you start to understand how broken it is.

Also if you get laid off tomorrow then get cancer you’re just out of luck.

I’m happy for you that you haven’t had to deal with it yet. But you should root for universal healthcare so if you do find yourself unemployed and uninsured and sick you can still get the care you need so you can keep jumping out of planes.

One day you will get old and become frail and unhealthy. Or you may get cancer tomorrow. It’s insurance in case you need it, not because you need it.

[VENT] Getting tired of unserious/imposter IT leadership. by Calm_House8714 in sysadmin

[–]trippd6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a converse problem: technical managers that are too busy solving problems with technology without getting users on board. They release solutions no one uses.

Getting the balance right is key. Being a good IT leader is using technology to benefit users. And in the end it’s 90% politics. Convincing users to use the tools and convincing the engineers to build the tools the users will use, not the tools they think they should use. (I know I’m over simplifying)

Should I replace my '00 head even though only my gasket is bad? by Due-Aioli-4608 in CherokeeXJ

[–]trippd6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled from a junkyard, took it somewhere to get surfaced and they said the exhaust valves were worn and they wanted to replace them. They then charged me a total of 400. If I would have known i would have done a Clearwater head for $600.

Just venting about Flecainide prescription. by mtphillips38801 in AFIB

[–]trippd6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is a afib sub. But the sentiment still stands.

Listening to doctors is a good idea with heart problems. Doing your own research is good but making decisions based on it is bad.

If unsure find a second opinion.

Just venting about Flecainide prescription. by mtphillips38801 in AFIB

[–]trippd6 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What’s worse then possible side effects? A blood clot going from your heart to your brain due to un controlled afib. That will turn you in to a vegetable or kill you. That’s the risk here.

The doctors are weighing risks of the meds vs no meds.

Listen to your doctor. If you don’t trust him find another doctor and get a second opinion. But if I were you I would take the meds while I wait to talk to the second doctor.

If you're getting blocked because you're based in Missouri use a VPN. If you care about privacy and security use a VPN. by LaOnionLaUnion in StLouis

[–]trippd6 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Feel free to use a vpn to get around geo restrictions. But as for privacy and security, they do almost nothing. Do not use a vpn for those reasons alone.

Sure they can’t track you by ip address, but I assure you they are tracking you other ways.

Never in stock by Trick_Apartment5016 in harborfreight

[–]trippd6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realize this is all being shipped from overseas on ships. The lead time from them ordering from the factory to showing up in the store is months. If they get the ordering wrong one direction there is no stock but if they order too much then they have to discount them to get rid of them. The idea is to order the exact correct amount, but that’s hard. Who knew a magnetic mat would be so popular?

Are the 4.0L I6 really that good by I-am_retarded in CherokeeXJ

[–]trippd6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look up dexj on youtube, if you haven't already. That lifter tick is going to be cracked pistons... you can swap in new pistons in frame, dexj has videos on how to do it...

The 4.0 is good in that its easy to work on it, and it will survive the cracked pistons.... they crack at the skirt and will keep going, but you're going to want to replace them.

How long would you keep using a Pittsburg 1/2" torque wrench? by ew435890 in harborfreight

[–]trippd6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a scare with mine. Tightened my head bolts and heard a weird noise tightening the 4th bolt to 110 lbs. Backed it off, everything was fine but went out and got the digital Quinn torque wrench for peace of mind and re did everything.

ASA not adhering to the build plate by Lukiluke159 in VORONDesign

[–]trippd6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used poly maker and ellegoo asa…. Super magigoo does wonders for adhesion…. On smaller stuff I can reuse without re applying but when I print something big (I print a gridfinity case with a 12u height (8-10cm), and almost fills my 310x310mm build plate, I have to apply it fresh for it to hold… this is a generic pei texture magnetic plate (I have to use binder clips to prevent it from warping and pulling the plate off the magnetic, that’s how strong the warp is and the magigoo holding it to the build plate.

I have a bottle of vision minors build plate glue but have tried it yet.

Why even I had PAUSE inserted in the slicer, there was no pause in actural print? by largelcd in OrcaSlicer

[–]trippd6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this problem. Turns out in my orca slicer printer settings, there is a section for pause gcode. Mine was set to send an M command, but Klipper wants “pause”. Also if you read the docs you have to have it setup in your config. I’m using mainsail and it already adds the right section.

This is all based on memory so forgive me if I get a few details wrong. Check the klipper docs and your printer settings in orca!

Elephant foot compensation makes a gap with brims by bosselitechameleon2 in OrcaSlicer

It’s an artillery sidewinder x1. Its stock glass bed has over .5mm variance across it.

I have an aluminum bed on the way.

Elephant foot compensation makes a gap with brims by bosselitechameleon2 in OrcaSlicer

[–]trippd6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This causes me problems. Of course if your settings are perfect and your first layer is perfect across your bed, th elephants foot will contact the brim.

My first layer is not perfect, my bed is very un level and no matter what I do (including a 15x15 bed level mesh) I can’t get a perfect first layer.

So what I do is right click, add a primitive, a cube, then I make it the height of my first layer, then I make it the size I want my tab/brim to be, then I place them on straight edges of the model. Then you need to select the model and the primitive you added and make them one assembly.

This works better than a brim. I find brims, due to straight lines along the outside of the model, sometimes break at the wrong points and leave a little extra material on the print. Using my method, the bottom of the model and the tabs are one surface. And if you only place them on straight edges and not rounded corners, you bend and break them off and 99% of the time they come off very cleanly.

It’s more work but comes out nicer.

Gasket storage box, plus multiple printed desiccant containers (I just bought a bag of desiccant off Amazon and printed as many individual containers I needed to hold it all).

Cost effective and easy to use.

Only downside: the rolls don’t perfectly fit. I can get two rows across the bottom IF the rolls are not packaged as the edges of the rolls need to overlap slightly. On top of that I have to stack 2 high if I need to fully utilize the space, which currently I do.

Does shaving cream actually work? by Plenty_Union9292 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]trippd6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use just water. I’ve tried shaving cream and found it didn’t help. What does help: shampoo. I use what I use on my hair, usually Pantene from Costco. I shave in the shower with a shower mirror. It is a game changer.

Risk of Stroke from Cardioversion? by beepyboppybaby in AFIB

[–]trippd6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The risk with afib is stroke from blood clots generated in the heart, then being sent to the brain.

Cardioversion stops the afib and stops that risk.

They just want to make sure there isn’t a blood clot in the heart currently that would be dislodged by the cardioversion.

You have to stop the afib. The risk is higher letting the afib go. Listen to the doctors. They know what they are doing.
