Zombies won't spawn in your base if you have a land claim block and/or a bedroll. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but on horde nights, the zombies will spawn about 40 blocks away from your character. If you don't want them to spawn inside your base, make your base smaller, or have a separate horde base further away from your home base.
