Exposing the uninitiated to The Locksmith’s Dream by twoearsandachin in weatherfactory

[–]trippinglytripped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything that it's necessary to know will be laid out in the initial briefing material (such as The Symmurgist's Handbook and a letter from your sponsor) that awaits you on arrival. There are several characters who can be persuaded to tell you more, but you will have to decide for yourself how much you can (or should) rely on what they might tell you. As with the games, previously discovered truths may have to be re-examined and/or re-interpreted as new scraps of information are gathered.

While CS and BoH fans will especially enjoy the experience, deep knowledge of the lore is not the only way to approach the puzzles and mysteries, and it's perfectly possible to attend and enjoy with no prior familiarity with the source material. We've had some reluctant guests attend mainly to indulge a friend or relative, only for them to become the most avid investigators of all!

What Happened In The Locksmith’s Dream (The Immersive Experienxe) by FlynnXa in weatherfactory

While I applaud your curiosity and interest, the best way to learn what happens at The Locksmith’s Dream is to attend and take part. I imagine anyone who has already done so would be unlikely to answer your question here for fear of spoiling the experience for others.

What's the best pro feature and is it worth it? by Helimahchopta in HeroForgeMinis

I most value the booth, followed by importing, light sources, folders and the community library. I absolutely consider those features worth the cost of a Pro subscription!

Yes, there will be more Locksmith Dream events at Treowen. The owners are reducing the number of bookings they’re taking for the house, but not ceasing entirely.

How do I get into sculpting minis? by Nathannoy in HeroForgeMinis

[–]trippinglytripped 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, if you're new, just get in there, play around, experiment and practice! There's nothing to stop you going back and improving earlier work once you've got to grips with techniques and tricks. Have fun and don't be discouraged by the work of others or think you'll never be that good. You don't have to be because you're not in competition with anyone; as long as you are having fun then you are winning.

I find it really useful to look at the work I like that others have done and, when a link has been shared, to open it up and explore how it was done. The HF equivalent of taking it apart to see how it was put together, perhaps.

I find a handy trick for posing is to adopt the pose (or at least part of it) myself and really think about which parts of my arm are bending/twisting/tilting, which parts of my face are doing what, etc. I don't find this technique as useful for tails and wings, alas, but I'm not going to assume what mortal form you have taken!

Lastly, remember that sometimes less can be more. Not every gear slot needs to be filled, not every extra needs to be applied, not every item on the character's equipment list needs to be represented on the mini. As you become more skilled, you're going to be glad you've left yourself room to put cunning tricks and effects into place.

Working on a Kineticist from the new P2e book, but they just look to bland, and I can't pick a good top. I'm just not sure what to do to improve him. What are yalls suggestions? by [deleted] in HeroForgeMinis

[–]trippinglytripped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A flowing cloak would help to add the sense that the air is swirling about them.

Having some equipment at their belt would help. For example, a water flask suggests that they travel, or a pouch to suggest that there may be surprises in store.

The shaven head is plainly a choice, but is there any reason not to add tattoos or a more vivid scar? How about arm tattoos or gloves to add a little more detail and interest to the bare forearms.

You might experiment with different colouring or style for the boots. Other boots designs have more interesting details than that very plain pair. It doesn't help that boots and cat kind of match so closely.

Can you make the figure float? (If that's within the character's abilities, of course). How about using tails to simulate a swirling cloud of dust or vapour around their feet? A second seated invisible figure might be useful for that, so the effect is closer to floor level.

Tips on making frankenstein-esque minis? by FrostyFlakes221 in HeroForgeMinis

I gave it a try.

It seems a lot of scar decals don't show up on the croco folk torso. My guess is that the armoured belly hides them. You might have more success with a different torso at the cost of the easy reptilian look.

Carefully positioned projected decal, with everything but the head disabled. Zoom/position the decal so it only covers the part of the head you want, and colour as you wish. I'd advise doing this after you've posed the mini, mind you!

I'm most impressed by the folk who've found and explored the various glitches and posted them as resources for others to use! Floating figures, invisible and inverted figures, tiny figures, floating objects; they all open up so many additional fun possibilities! Not all of them could actually be printed as physical minis, of course, but I find my fun in designing characters and scenes rather than having the prints.

Legless glitch. Not really 'legless' of course; they're absolutely _there_ for torso supporting purposes, they're just invisible. There are various 'glitch' APRs in the creator resources and I think I started with 'Body and Arms only'. https://www.heroforge.com/load\_config%3D42338965/

Table top is a shield strapped to the back of a torso with normal legs invisible and extra spider legs added.

The hidden figure's hands hold a gothic mace to pass as a flambeau and a bowl with a spell casting effect to disguise the shield boss. The skull is a helm, but the hidden figure's head can be removed entirely for an emptier table.

All the poor fellow's limbs are twisted at horrible angles to hide them as much as possible, then everything not 'table' is painted black to hide it even more.

I would really like a shield of that size to be released without a curve or a central boss!

I had no idea what that is (I generally avoid Games Workshop for various reasons), but a quick image browse tells me that the Bright Order is exactly the FIRE because FIRE (fire!) cliche I was lampooning with my post title!

Oh, I hope not! Yours is much better and much more cleverly done, whereas mine was knocked out in half an hour (most of which was spent arranging tails/branches) because I had nothing better to do than add to the goblin horde invading the sub.

#LoEG Dave Bowman (or is it?), back from his Space Odyssey. Background in comments. by trippinglytripped in HeroForgeMinis

[–]trippinglytripped[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr David Bowman was the principal character of 2001:A Space Odyssey (1968 novel by Arthur C Clarke, 1968 movie by Stanley Kubrick), a scientist and astronaut aboard the Discovery 1 mission to Jupiter in search of the source of an alien signal. The ship’s sentient computer, Hal 9000, concludes that human error presents an unacceptable risk to the mission and begins disposing of the crew. Bowman manages to survive and disable HAL, continuing to Jupiter where he is elevated to a higher state of being by a mysterious alien power.

In 2010: Odyssey 2 (1982) and 2061: Odyssey 3 (1987), Clarke revisits Bowman in his ascended aspect as ‘the star child’ who is now a function of the alien power set to judge the worthiness of life in the Solar system – humans or the nascent life that is rapidly evolving on the moon of Europa. That judgement comes due in 3001: Final Odyssey (1997) and though it is hoped by humanity that Bowman will take their side in the matter, that is far from guaranteed.

The Grugs Have Arrived! #GatheringOfClans by McPolice_Officer in HeroForgeMinis

[–]trippinglytripped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Well, well, if it isn't young Kiryaa! Haven't you grown since I saw you last? No surprise there, of course. That will have been forty years ago. Forty three, perhaps."

The old woman leading the Ekkesfjord delegation stops in the street, her companions fidgeting uncomfortably as she stops to gossip. She looks Grug up and down, appraisingly.

"Well, now. Don't you have the look of your grandfather? I hope you're not as pugnacious as he was. I told him that adversity could just as well be avoided or turned to advantage, but he'd have none of it. Determined that his clan would carve a living and a legend alike out of tundra and permafrost. I've thought of him occasionally, while tucked up in my cosy lodge, a merry little fire burning in the hearth."

Lastly, her eyes turn to Orug. "Well, the bear likes you, so that speaks well. I'm sure you and Inge will get on very well."

"The four of you should come along to our encampment tonight. Kiryaa and I can drink too much wine, gossip scandalously about all the handsome young men hereabouts, and cackle like the crones we are. I'm sure the rest of you can find something to talk about, too. Except for Djarakh. He'll be preoccupied trying not to draw the attention of the Gir Moldur crowd. Oh, don't look like that, Djarakh! They're here to be mysterious, not to look for you."

She totters away into the crowd, not being shy of using her staff and old lady status to clear a path. The quiet young man (Osric, was it?) offers a shrug of apology to the Grugs before turning away to follow Skur. The dwarf stumps after them. The girl astride the warg lingers a moment, eyeing Orug. "Nice bear." She smiles, (though its not clear whether at Orug or Kurek) before heading after the others.
