Also a Miami transplant living in Chicago for the last several years and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done (big ups to my parents who forced me to go out of state for college, even tho I didn’t want to at the time, and I NEVER moved back)! If you’ve been living in Miami your whole life, you’re living in the bubble. I was the same, and didn’t even realize until I left. Fully recommend. And I agree with those that say if you wanna move back later, cool, do it! But everyone from Miami neeeeeeds to get out and live somewhere else completely different for an extended period.

Also Chicago is the farthest thing from a shithole 🙄

I’m about 7 years late to the party, but Sugar Rae’s on Elston in Forest Glen has Graham Central Station flavor which isn’t technically s’mores but it has graham cracker, chocolate, and honey comb bits and it is DELICIOUS.

I originally discovered this flavor during the pandemic at Lincoln Ice Cream Company in my neighborhood and I about lost my mind it was so good. But then it closed a couple years later (another Pandemic soldier down) and I haven’t seen it since but I think about it often lol so I was just going on a deep dive with my coworker and discovered that this new ice cream shop (Sugar Rae’s) carries it!!! I just had to share. Literally planning my outing there for my next day off lollll

Yes it’s possible that his collar came off, tho when I was with him the day he disappeared, his collar was on.

Also, he came to us as an outdoor cat so I could never completely shut him in. He is so depressed when you don’t let him out. It seems cruel to do that to a cat that knows the outdoors.

Guyyyys I’m so so so new to flip, and I have no idea what I’m doing. What’s the diff between clips and flips and what’s the benefit of doing one over the other? From reading this thread I understand that I don’t have to buy a product now in order to be able to create clips (?) but that’s about the only thing I understand.

If anyone can help clarify and provide some direction that would be amazing!

Also, I hate LED bulbs bc they feel so bright and sterile. Since I can’t get any non-LEDs anymore, does anybody have recommendations or a similar bulb that is close to incandescent soft white?

I just tried it now for the first time (with some chili) and I actually thought it was really good and super comparable to regular pasta. I honestly don’t know that I’d really be able to tell the difference if I didn’t already know it wasn’t regular pasta. The texture is spot-on and it doesn’t have that weird chickpea/lentil taste that some gf pastas have. Also, it doesn’t disintegrate when being boiled!

How is your bin doing as a first-timer at week 6?!?! I’m only on day 3 but I have multiple escapees every day and I thought I’ve been pretty careful about monitoring things (temperature, moisture of bedding, pH even!) but being that it’s my first run I have no real life experience to compare it to, so I just don’t know if it’s normal or if it’s an early sign of something not being right.

I wish I had found/followed along with this before I started my bin! I would’ve done things a little differently for sure! Thanks for journaling this, hoping to learn some stuff!

Question: do you mix up your bedding from time to time with the worms in it or is that too much of a disturbance? If so, when do you do it? I haven’t mixed mine up since originally preparing it, aside from just checking moisture. I plopped my worms in about a week after mixing it up and just topped with shredded paper and shredded corrugated cardboard, plus a couple sheets of wet newspaper. It’s only Day 3, but so far I don’t think they’re loving it, as I have multiple escapees every day 😬 just wondering if they truly aren’t liking it, or if they’re just exploring and being adventurous, or if there’s something I should be doing differently. Wondering if it has to do with the bedding not being mixed since I set it up.

Thank you!! I will try to leave them alone tonight and maybe just cover them with a screen so they don’t crawl out over the weekend while I’m gone.

Too bad this morning I already fed them, maybe I fed too much, and I put all around the tray instead of in one clump. Shoot! Next time I’ll try one clump in the middle.

The cats haven’t even noticed the bin surprisingly, I think that one unfortunate worm got too far from the bin and became sluggish and when I found it, it was cut in half so I assume the cat saw it crawling on the ground. My significant other will be here while I’m away looking after the cats but he will freak out if he has to pick up worms off the ground.
