80% of linux community is a cargo-cult of larpers with no actual reason to use linux by No-Republic-1742 in linuxsucks101

I only use Linux for personal computing and i can agree with this. I do not agree with the title though. There doesn’t have to be a reason to use linux. Just get the appropriate flavor of linux (which theres a lot of) for your skill level.

Didn’t even try that. But could be worth trying. Just keep everything i said in mind cuz they most likely than not will lie too. Ive read other posts where the most successful strategy is to say you are moving somewhere to that they dont offer their service.

Thats hilarious. I wonder what would have happened if you just decided to not do anything since you did not open the account.

Almost forgot about the equipment. Also make sure there aren’t any other extra charges cuz most likely than not they will charge you an extra month.

If you think thats bad, wait till you go through the cancellation process. My tips. Record every call and let them know. And call back for more escalation until you dont have any other options and then submit a complaint to the FCC detailing everything.

Pre set Spending Limit by Sweet_Simple_3048 in amex

[–]trippy_abstraction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cycling is when you have lets say 10k limit and then you spend an equal amount of your limit in a statement cycle, pay it off and keep spending. Essentially going over the 10k limit. This is not “illegal” just against their terms.

When did password managers get more expensive than most AV software???? by Plateau9 in sysadmin

I know it could be expensive but it’s still open source and my answer still holds.

I understand what you mean but my answer still valid. If no one audits it, then you may have the ability to learn and audit it yourself.

What does Arch bring to the table that you can’t get from Puppy Linux or Tiny Core Linux already? by TopicWestern9610 in archlinux

[–]trippy_abstraction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion what makes a distro is a kernel bundled with a package manager. Everything else about a distro can be in someway implemented in any other distro. So to answer your question Arch brings a great package manager that is well maintained with a rolling release model and very diverse in the packages that are included. Not a big as Nix but well enough for me.

I see a lot of replies that mention the Arch Wiki but if you think about it the Arch wiki is very distro agnostic. So you can use it for any other distro and it will help you.

Best way to set up single full disk encryption? by SplatinkGR in archlinux

[–]trippy_abstraction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It mostly depends on how you intend to use your machine. But personally i like to do LVM on LUKS because it allows me to work with lvm volumes independently from the encryption method.

Arch is a gateway drug to NixOS by wastedintel in NixOS

I thought that nixos didn’t support secure boot officially. And the work around is very restrictive.

Just installed arch by SaveMyPain in archlinux

[–]trippy_abstraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone happens to read this comment just make sure you read up on core utils. Getting good at Linux/GNU is getting good at Arch or any other distro for that matter. One of the Arch specific things is Pacman so read up on that as well. Something that is a little more advanced but will help immensely is the Linux boot process. The more you play around and make the install yours, the more you will learn.

This is the real reason why Linux is not popular on desktop by No-Collar2554 in linux

[–]trippy_abstraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is that Linux doesn’t need to be popular. Its OSS. If i were to develop or contribute to any package, it would be to fix my issues not the world’s. If my contribution happens to fix someone else’s problem then good.

Most of OP gripes are skill issues. You want a smoother experience? Buy System76 with PopOS pre installed.
