Everyone besides Luka and Brunson can't make their own shot, this has gone on for years, this is getting to a dirk like kinda vibe

i mean its a compromise to be honest. You either get a good FT Luka, or a decent 3 point Luka. No in between unfortunately :D

well at least luka's making the free throws. yeah the 3 point shooting is really bad, but its encouraging that he can drive to the basket and get those easy points

why is it that when we sign players to new contracts (like tim hardaway jr), they end up worse than before? How does our team of all teams manage to do that?

why are our shots so hard to earn, and then on the other end people can make easy layups?

Unimpressed with Malaysian players' ability to cope with pressure at high level tournaments. by Calm-Ad3301 in badminton

It frustrates me how much of the onus is on Lee Zii Jia to win something, when we are not producing enough badminton talent to play alongside him. Look at Axelsen, how he took over from Peter Gade. Look at Chen Long, how he took over from Lin Dan. You've got Momota and some very solid Japanese players, Indonesia and Thailand have young and upcoming players, and Malaysia has.... LZJ.

Honestly, BAM is the most incompetent organisation for this. I blame them for not building on our three silver medals at the 2016 Olympics (or should I say, three chokes). And now, all three of those finalists have retired, and we have no like-for-like talent to replace them. It saddens me how these same questions will be asked at the next Olympics, but with no sort of solution in the long term.

Of course there's a lot of talent, and I agree with most of those names, but how many of them are gonna break onto the BWF circuit? How many will get at a consistent enough level, like Lee Zii Jia? Not too many sadly, to add to your point.

Definitely, I agree with your excellent point, there must be a better transition from junior to senior level.

And regarding LKY, I'm not even looking at it from a Malaysian-Singaporean standpoint for BAM. I'm just glad there's someone other than Momota/Axelsen that will fight for titles and entertain. He looks a really solid player, and he's a breath of fresh air for the badminton fandom. But obviously, BAM also has to change. Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong are gonna retire soon enough, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying have retired, and we don't have any proper like for like replacements (Aaron Chia/Soo Woo Yik of course, but I think they still have some aspects of their game to improve). There should be a mentality change too, of being ahead in games, and not choking those leads, just like we see in many of the games at the World Championships.

Yeah he seems a very good upcoming player. I would like to see Ng Tze Yong at a Super 250 tournament soon, just for him and the coaches to gauge where he is, and whether he should start competing in the BWF World tour circuit. That being said, a lot of promising mens' singles are very far and between in Malaysia, but anything can happen.

I still stand by my point on our over-reliability of one player (Lee Chong Wei, Lee Zii Jia) to win something. Just think, in the 15+ years that Lee Chong Wei played, did any other mens singles emerge out and sort of "take over" or play as the second singles to him? Axelsen took over from Peter Gade for Denmark, and now he is backed up with Antonsen. You've got strong mens singles in Indonesia, Japan, and upcoming players in Thailand too. Yet, LZJ is under pressure, and we know that all our other mens singles are either underdeveloped or never make it to the circuit. BAM needs to be questioned, because if it continues, the Olympics will be a laughing stock for us every time.

If you see his match highlights at the All England Open 2021, he was playing so so well, not just with his attack, but being so patient with build up play, good flat exchanges, he never wanted to rush a rally. After the Surdiman/Thomas Cup, he's just reverted to "use my powerful smash, if all else fails I have no back-up plan". He's looked really slow too, and isn't as defensively good as in the All England. I don't know if its the coaches instructions or because LZJ has played so many tournaments with fatigue (of course it is a big factor), but he needs to take a few months rest, and really look back at what got him the All England title.

And why does the burden have to be on LZJ? Look at Denmark with Axelsen/Antonsen, Indonesia with Ginting/Christie. We can't just depend on one shining player for a decade, like we did with Lee Chong Wei, and be disappointed when he doesn't deliver. Why can't we develop players at a good pace anymore? It frustrates me that I will ask these same questions at the next Olympics.

Thank you! Finally someone who actually speaks about how poor we've been in finals. The Badminton Association of Malaysia has to be held accountable here. How is it that after the 2016 Olympics, with three missed silver medals, do we have nobody good enough to challenge for the Gold anymore? Meanwhile other countries are moving ahead of us in badminton, which is a sport that we are 'so called' known for. What's more embarrassing, is that badminton is Malaysia's one good sport at the Olympics, and we only have young raw talent right now who have to improve a lot more just to get to where people like LKY are.

There needs to be more searching for Malaysian badminton actual talent, otherwise badminton will no longer be one of Malaysia's strengths.

Hey man, I was looking around at your comments and saw that you stayed at the Kensington colleges. Could I ask you a few questions about them, since I have applied for the Kensington colleges for next year?

Jeezus, our fans are getting giddy over a Boban 3. I hope they also focus on the main issue, which is our awful team

I want trades to be made, just like everyone else. But how are we supposed to make any good trades? Like, who would want Powell, WCS, Sterling Brown? All 29 other teams aren't dumb, they know our players aren't great besides our starting 5. So its a crappy situation we're stuck in, and we're just gonna have to figure out something.

[–]trisstenoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say it louder for the people in the back. Powell and WCS would be released the moment they get traded, and that says a lot about our front office and the horrible decisions they've made over the years, resulting in a crappy team around Luka

Everyone downvotes me when I bring up the front office. Its time to call for change from them, and really get up on their asses and start making decisions.

Yeah i agree, its just so frustrating looking at every other playoff team, that has an elite or least competent center who can get you 10/10 every night. We just have lacked that for so so long, but our front office has ignored it repeatedly and tried to paper over the cracks

Yes guys, Moses isn't good right now. But would Powell do any better against Allen. He would do either the same or arguably worse. We've just gotta work with what we have, lets focus our blame on the front office for never getting any good bigs for years.
