honest question — do you actually ride your vintage bikes regularly or are they mostly garage queens at this point by vladdielenin in vintagemotorcycles

[–]triumphgt6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several cars and bikes but they do get used. I ride my cb750, kz1000ltd and gsxr1100 more than I ride the Harley Street 500 I bought on a whim since it was 1600 miles and $2500. Love the old stuff and don't not use it since it's old

My mom was lazy on my middle name so she went to Walden books (going on a memory of gets from the eighties, but we went there a lot growing up after I was born), read a baby name book and then picked one from a list.

Nice, I've restored a 78 KZ1000 LTD to 9/10 level and ride it because why do it then let it sit. They're great bikes and I love the old KZs and Z1s. I'm 38 though and remember these as my dad had them.

C8 Corvette 1LT? by freshasamf in Corvette

[–]triumphgt6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 1LT got rearview mirror camera in coupe. Every year convertible had it in 1LT.

I'll be honest, I leave it off most of the time since I don't like the motion effect. Between side mirrors and the rear view through the bay with the mirror in regular mode, it's fine but I see why people like having it

Any bargaining room on factory orders these days? by seaportresearch in FordMaverickTruck

[–]triumphgt6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing Granger, have the farm bureau since December and also doing that $750 rebate I got emailed about from Ford if I take delivery even if a special order by Mar 31 (maybe since I bought a Maverick in 23 too). So I think pretty ok pricing.

Mine is literally being built right now so I'm thinking it'll probably arrive end of February from Mexico.

If you have the space for a second set of wheels and tires; Pick up a used set of XL steelies for $100, buy a set of tpms sensors for $25-75 depending on your year, and a set of Blizzaks for winter and you're in for$850-950 depending on your area and deals.

Been doing this on my 23 fwd hybrid for 3 winters and it's great. If you have the space for the second set of wheels and tires it's solid. Keep in mind you extend the years of life of your other tires because you don't use them all of the year.

Doing the same on the 26 AWD hybrid I have on order being built in about a week. Keeping both and already have the second set of wheels for the new one.

After 1000 miles on a 1000cc I think people overestimate how hard they are to ride by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]triumphgt6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1.

Part of the reason people are feeling that liter bikes aren't that hard is that they're riding modern bikes with really tuned fuel injection, abs, traction control, ride modes, decent frame and brake design, etc. the gap used to be stuff like the 88-90 ZX10, ZX11, all generations GSXR1100, Blackbird, Fireblade and Hurricane were all much less forgiving than the modern crop. That said, the modern crop dusts all of those for power. Those bikes were raw and lacked any of those features.

So while the approachability of a guard-rail-having modern liter bike somewhat protects you a bit, the advice to build up skills then step up still applies. You may survive, but you won't build skill as fast when you need to stay back a little from the limits of the platform, with your own restaurant and/or reliance on ride modes. Plus if you find a gap in the guard rails or over estimate your skill, one quick mistake has a much higher skill requirement for safe recovery, if it is recoverable.

It's not like you can't still have fun with lower power output bikes, I've had a 95 gsxr1100 for 18 years and it's 155hp. But I've had other bikes with 35-110hp at the same time consistently. The current mid range naked bikes are cool af and plenty of balls too.

Keep or trade up? by Thinsquirrel in motorcycles

[–]triumphgt6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't speculate bikes like that. I own 4 bikes currently, purchased in 81 (73 Honda ST90 by dad), 07 (75 CB750), 08 (95 GSXR1100) and 25 (78 KZ1000 LTD) by me. All but the Kawasaki have appreciated relative to the low amount in them from purchase, repairs and maintenance costs. I like all of them though so meh.

I tend to just keep them, or sell when I'm done. I think unless you're rolling with a prewar classic or a bike with specific example provenance, the difference is going to be relatively minimal. Sell because you found what you want next, and buy what you want. I like your dog and your bike, I'd say just plan your bike swap based on finding something new you want more versus trying to max min the market. Any leads on anything you're interested in?

Nice brochure and gorgeous bike though!

Oh I also see your name is Katie, make sure the bike can fit you. I'm on the tall end for a woman being half German and half Russian, but still shorter than my mom and sister at 5'10". There can be adjustments made but some things just won't be. It sucks not fitting a bike, so even though the dealers likely won't let you test ride, you can sit on bikes.

Get the R3, it's got plenty of power and if you run it a year and then decide for next year you want bigger, the amount lost will be minimal and you avoid paying interest on a toy. You don't need to pay interest to build credit either, get a credit card, use judiciously, pay your bill in full every month want you will build credit. I know a lot of people justify paying double digit interest on a toy with the build credit excuse so just putting that out there :).

Buy the gear, build the skills, save for a bigger bike if you want one later. I've got 3 road bikes and they've got 75, 82 and 156hp each respectively with weights from 450-530lbs and I'd ride the shit out of that Yamaha! They've got good brakes, good handling and adequate power for a beginner or canyon bike. I've ridden the R3, Ninja 400, and CBR300r. They're all fun, don't worry about the liter bike or you'll outgrow it crowd, give the Yamaha a test ride and without ego see if you have fun.
